I fancy a Caterham (mainly for track days) but don't really know where to start.

Having had a browse through the classifieds on here, this http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1913188.htm caught my eye.

Would anyone like to comment on spec, price etc?

Cheers smile

Neil.

wow, where to start! I think that caterham track day fun comes in at way less than 21k. Just look at Chris71's roadsport A at around 10k. Not as fast as the car in question, but easily as much fun. The last thing you need to take on track and get some gravel rash is a newly repainted R300!

That's a lot of money for an 8 year old R300!
Especialy as it doesn't have the full carbon pack (Nosecone and rear wings) It also has composite tillets. For that money, I'd want the carbon or Kevlar jobbies.
Maybe the pictures, but the bonnet looks a different colour to the rest of the car?

Most of the stuff listed there is also strandard gear for an R300.
I'd be interested to know what a "Race spec." LSD is?

Also, if you want a track car, go for 13inch wheels. Nicer progressive handling, and more tyre choice.
A full cage would stiffen the car up a bit too.

Happy shopping. smile

For a track day toy you could get all the power for about half that money

Probably more aggressive ramp angles on accel and deccel., assuming it has a plate type ZF LSD.

To give another side to argument I'd say that doesn't look a bad deal if it's as good as they say it is. You'd be wanting to have a really good look over it.

I'd also have a look at the black R400 with the gold nose 'dip' at Caterham South.

We built a Duratec R300 SV and immediately took it tracking. Awesome fun, more so than road driving to my mind. I can't really see the point of getting a Superlight R... and not track it. If you were buying a road only seven, you'd surely get something softer, like a Roadsport 175.
