I'm very tempted by the PH Caterham 7 drifting day but being rather lanky and, err, "big boned" I don't want to stump up the money without verifying I can actually fit into one!

(6'5" and 16.5 stone, it's the height that's the possible problem I think).

So I was wondering if anyone in or around MK has one of the wide bodied ones that I can have a sit and make "squeeeling" noises in? smile

You'll be fine in an SV. I'm 6 foot but with a long inside leg and 14 stone. The seat in my SV is a good 3 to 4 inches from its maximum rear position. I'm not near MK but if you're passing Swindon you are welcome to have a look.

I've got a mate with an SV (as do we) who's 6'4" and about the same weight with no issues filling in his SV. He has the seat back, but I don't believe on the furthest setting as he still packs stuff behind his seat. I'm 6' and a bit heavier and I have no trouble at all fitting in, and have the leather S seats and can/have/will again do 8-10 hour drives very comfortably in our SV.

I do some unusual gymnastics to get into car with 1/2 hood or full hood, but that may be more because I'm 50 and don't bend (very sadly) the same I did at 25....

No worries

What is your inside leg if you don't mind me asking?

I'm about 34". (or rather that's the IL measurement I go looking for when buying jeans)

Cheers Steve, I do have a similar problem with a knackered knee that doesn't bend so well.

I'll admit this drifting day does have a dual purpose as I've always been tempted by a 7 (or probably a cheaper 7-a-like like a Robin Hood), and if I can ever bear to chop in the current baby, change it for a tall 4x4 (easy to get in and out of) and a 7-a-like for fun.

I'm sure you'll fit. If buying however I would go for the lowered floor.

Lowered floor?

I know they do wide bodied, and they also do deeper footwells but this is the first I've heard of lowered floors!

Lowered floors tilt the seat bottom backwards and generate roughly 2-3cm better clearance in a line from the nosecone to the FIA bar. Huw i'd aviod that unless he gets into a problem with helmet clearance as that should be the last measure.

now if you're getting an SV and it's built by the factory have a LF put in. it's 260 rivets/side on an SV -- I know as I've lowered the floors on both side of our SV

Lowering the floor is both a factory build option or a retrospective fit. It will drop the floor by about a couple of inches. Even with the SV I would have thought that, given your physique, this would be a sensible option.

At a mere 6'1'' I think a lowered floor is well worth having. I was at CC south last week looking at various options and the difference between lowered floor and std floor for me is being able to look through the windscreen/see the instruments as compared with looking at the top of the screen frame and the steering wheel obscuring the main dials.

It does affect the ground clearance mind. I took their r400 demo out and grounded it coming off their car park ramp. Must have been the weight of the passenger!

Mark.

34" inside leg
Size 16 shoes
20 stone boxedin

It's snug, but it's all good biggrin

ETA: I've got the lowered floors all round, standard seats, and a quick release Momo steering wheel
