I'm planning on removing my original Caterham carbon fibre stone guards and fitting the wrap around millwood ones. Hopefully these will cover up, and keep protected most of my wing.

They're in the post, but today I noticed that the stone guards have a piping around them. Can I fit the new ones without this piping or is it wise to buy a length and fit it with my new guards. Is it only cosmetic, or does it have a really, utterly, of the highest order, importance to it being there?

Just found it on the Caterham website and I notice it comes in two different variants...helpful. Is there a rule of thumb?

This one here, and that one there.

Millwood fitted mine and omitted the piping. This allows grit and all manner of rubbish to work it's way down behind the stone guards. I would certainly use some piping.

Mine are now 2 years old and are looking decidedly ropey. The carbon is being eaten away by stone chipping. Next time I will go for full carbon wings or use the wrap-around guards with a film protection.

Alternatively I know that some have glued the wrap-around guards on which will stop the grit etc working it's way in behind the guards.

Hope that helps.

Looks like I'll buy the piping then.

Thanks.

If you want these to stay in good cosmetic condition, cover them with 3m paint protection film, otherwise they will look tatty very quickly

Is there a good place to get this from? Will it bend around the curves of the guard well?

Got my paint protection from PPG, very good service Give him a call to see how it would go over the Millwood protectors. Must admit that it was the most difficult part to fit as you have to apply it in 2 directions at the same time. I cheated and cut mine above level with the top of the original stoneguard.

So, you put stone guards on to protect the wings. Then, you put film over the guards to protect those....confused
Why not just use protective film?

No reason you could not protect the wings with PPF only, but you will be left with the rivet holes of the stone guards+ if something big hits the front of the wing it could crack.

Hi Gingerbread Man,

I've recently bought my first Caterham and I'm considering changing the stainless steel stone guards for the standard Caterham carbon fibre stone guards.

How many miles has your car done and how have your stone protectors held up? (i.e. do they still look in good condition)

And if they are in reasonable nick would you like to recoup some of the cost of your shiny new Millwood stone guards? biggrin

Hi there.

I hope to take them off on Sunday and fit the new ones. I'll give them a polish and clean up and see how they look.

Then I'll drop you an email.
