I'm at Cadwell tomorrow in my R500D.

Will I have any ground clearance issues on landing if I get 'air' over the mountain?

Cheers

We never had any problems in k series cars, and the low point is further forward (sump on A K vs bellhousing on duratech) - so i suspect not.
Hope you have a good day

had all my caterhams/westys round there and never had any problems, not with clearance anyway!

if you do get "air" make sure your avoid the barriers on the right, seen one or two cars head that way when being heavy on the throttle going over the mountain!

enjoy though it is an awesome circuit in a Caterham!

Hey Rich! Let me know how you enjoy Cadwell in the R500. Alex and I will be there in the R300 on the 22nd. Looking forward to it after all the little car's been through in the last month. (Merc reversed into it, got it mended, replaced diff)

Martyn

PS what tyres are you running on the R500?

Thanks everyone - only one grounding problem and that was at entry to the Mountain on one occasion.

Hi Martyn

Cadwell was fantastic - More like a roller-coaster than race track, and I can't think of a circuit more suited to a Caterham. Loads of positive camber means you can pile in to most corners with way more speed than self-preservation seems to suggest.

Tyre-wise I was running the new ZZR's. With lower pressures (18psi hot) they're much better than the CR500s - though they still under-steer too much on the standard set-up - apparently they need a lot more camber.

My car was down on power (peak 110mph on both straights) - but Coppice corner (the uphill left at the end of the bottom straight) could be taken flat with the ZZRs - a real test of manhood!

I also gave my ex- formula Renualt/BMW slicks a whizz, but to be honest they're too much - physically knackering, and there's also less 'driving' to do - a lot of corners can be taken flat (even the Gooseneck only required a slight lift!). Only going to wheel them out occasionally from now on.

When are you next at Bedford?

Cheers

Rich

I think we'll only be going back to Bedford next year now. We'll have to see how the diary pans out. Picking up ZZRs tomorrow as if happens.beer

You'll love the ZZR's, but you'll need to run them much lower PSI than the CR500s. I was running my CR500s at 21 hot, the ZZRs on this arn't much of an improvement grip-wise and are a fair bit more skittish on the road t this psi.

I've worked my way down to 18psi hot on road/track and they're amazing - not far off slick territory and much better than a slick from cold. Road comfort is within 5% of the CR500s and even mini roundabouts can be circulated ridiculously quick without a hint of under-steer.

Have fun!
