Anybody use a satnav in thier 7? where/how do you mount it? Im thinking the car might shake that much, that you cannot see the display clearly.

I've got a Tomtom Go 520 and I use the sucker mount stuck to the windscreen. Surprisingly little shake and easy to read. Power comes from a cigarette lighter plug mounted on the dashboard.

I stick my Nuvi on the windscreen. No issues and have driven across Europe with it. Have also tried it with the suction cup on the carbon dash which gives better visibility, but it rattles off...

I have a TomTom 730T, and use it on the windscreen when its on!!

However it seems that the Carbon Aeroscreen is now a permanent fixture, so I have been using the sucker mount on the TomTom to mount it to the carbon dash.

Its never fallen off, even with lots of spirited driving!!

You can see it mounted on the carbon dash here:

I use a Garmin and some velcro on the tunnel, just below the dashboard. It stays dry in the rain. You might want to stick the navigation on the windscreen. In that case you might want to invest in a weatherproof unit.

Interesting. I don't have a power outlet. Are there any battery powered alternatives?

Just add a cigar lighter style socket anywhere, as I did, its really easy, and gets you power for sat nav, phone charger, 0-60 timers, video devices etc

You're right - it has been one of those jobs that I have been planning to get sorted but seem never to get round to.

"Armed and dangerous" would be the best way to descibe my my abilities with a spanner. I will speak to an auto-electrician.

Yup, mine's down under the pax side of the dash, on a bracket (aka bent bit of ali sheet) using the same two bolts as the wiper motor. (Will try to get a photo later)

As promised:
Simply took a feed from the input side of the coil (so it switches on and off with the ign), earthed it at the same point as the heater fan, and Bob's yer muvver's bruvver.
THe photo makes it look as though it's almost flush with the dash - it isn't. You can hardly see it by just looking in the car.

i bought one almost identical to that from Ebay...£8.00 i think delivered.
It is a Marine outlet, pretty waterproof when not in use! smile
I mounted mine on the dash and wired it through the 'dead' side of my battery cutoff.
I wanted to be able to Browse or set destination, without ignition on but still kill ALL power with Battery cutout!
Works great1
Mike.
