I've just run in a new R500, and have for the first time been able to give it some welly. I notice a huge and fairly sudden wave of torque at about 5.5k revs. Is that normal/common or should I be getting the ECU looked at at the 1000 mile service?

TIA

Steve

ETA I seem to remember a similar 'kick' in my R500K, but it was nothiung like as marked

its a problem I also have with my Duratec. Its a particular problem when overtaking in the wet or coming out of a corner on the limit in 4th gear and the backend lights up - all recovered of course with a dab of oppo.

I was considering putting a block of wood under the throttle pedal to reduce the powerr of the engine but I decided I would simply grin each time it happens instead beer

You lucky buggerbiggrin

In a bit of a senior moment, for a brief second I figured you had a Diesel, hence the torque....
I am sure at some point in the future we'll have a duratec, and it is that torque I'm looking forward to...

Steve

Just keep it above 5.5k and you won't notice the step!

Hi Steve,

It's probably worth having another look at the attachment to the e mail I sent you in March. Does that look similar to what you feel yours is doing? Things have moved on since then and mine is a bit improved now but it's a long story. It may be finally resolved to as good as it gets now but I won't know for sure until I do another back to back comparison between the quiet and standard airboxes. If you want some more info drop me an e mail and I'll try and put you more in the picture.

Steve,

Worth checking that you are getting full opening on the Throttle Bodies, get some one to sit in the car and operate throttle pedal to full travel, whilst you look into trumpets with air filter off.

Sounds amazing but I was only getting 3/4 opening on mine due to how throttle stop screw was set.

Then check the balance of opening between, numbers 1-2 and 3-4 on the TB, again mine were way off, and they are easy to adjust too.

I will email you the pdf set up guide for TB that I used.

Nige.

Apologies for hijacking thread but can I ask if that is a non-metallic white?

I'm currently trying to spec a kit.

Looks great by the way!

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Yep - it's powder white - £950 if CC paint it.

Thanks Steve.

I take it from the name 'powder' it's a softer white or is it quite bright? Can you compare it to a regular manufacturer example?

Steve,

I adore the white colour... My SLK is white and my wife's A4 convertible is white too. Expecting my R300 in March still thinking about colour.would be nice if you could email me some pics please

It's very slightly less 'blue' than the above

the one below shows the colour very accurately (on my monitor!)

Similar Photo to Steve's, but hopefully showing the different colour of white:

Thanks for posting the photos guys, apologies again for the thread hijack. I need to finalise my spec for Thursday this week....

I'm leaning towards red with white decals just now but still like the white. The Crystalline white looks good but I think it's expensive over the powder white.

I guess there will be a lot of 2010/2011 cars in white and red with Superlight decals with the demonstrators/press photos being those colours.

Chris,

No problems, would be nice to know if you get the graphics with the new outline detail too.

Not sure if it is an extra cost option.

Nick Potter from CC South has it on his new R300, which is standard white, but the new graphic makes it stand out nicely.

sorry guys not sure what you mean by Graphics! Is it the word "Caterham" on both sides of the car?

Yes it the Caterham Word and Stripes down the side.

Nick Potters car in White has the red stripes with black lettering and black outline as seen on the R500 at Top Gear here:

It's called the superlight decal pack - it's on the price list. I got it (in black as you see), but told them to leave the sidestripes and name off (so I just got the twin stripe over the bonnet and down the back).
