As you may have guessed from the title, my caterham with a 190 bhp vhpd rover k series is stuttering a bit at around 3000 rpm, it's more noticeable in high gears as their is enough torque to push through it in 1st/2nd/3rd....

the exhaust has also started popping and banging loundly (more loudly) when you lift off i.e. engine brake ("on the overrun??")

Any ideas?

sounds like a misfire creeping in. potential pain in the a55 to trace the cause.

check:
all sensors/senders
all earths / 12v feeds
loose connections on switches
FIA master switch (if fitted)
coils and crank position sensors can also give problems

The popping may simply be a cause of bad fuelling (stock ECU?) combined with the wadding having been burnt/blown out of the exhaust.

Also check the balance of the throttle bodies - then perform an ecu reset.

How do you reset the ecu?

I would suspect the TPS or TPS wiring, inspect the connector, it's usually the centre pin that fails for some reason
