Hi. With the search not working, i cant really tell if this the best place or not to ask this..
But i wondered if any caterham/westy/etc. owners have experience or any clues with sump shortening. Ive heard of sumps having to be shallower or flat bottomed - for these applications when the ecotec/zetec/whatever engines go in them..?
Its the ecotec that i need help with but any pointers would be great, thanks.

Do you mean a dry-sump ? They are "flat".

no, sorry - i wish i could afford dry-sump, maybe one day... that would be the ideal solution.
But no - ive seen/heard of actually cutting/rewelding the o.e alloy/steel sump for a little more ground clearance.. or maybe somewhere someone actually produces them already to replace o.e one with a shorter one.. - like you get in competition parts etc. perhaps..?

Yes, if you are brave, and a dab hand with a TIG welder, you can no doubt chop the sump, add baffles etc, and weld it back together.

A safer option is to look at either Raceline or Dunnell or Scholar (there are no doubt others).

They certainly all produce shortened sumps for the Zetec.
