If you change your wheel sizes, say from 13" to 15"...i assume it affects your speedo?..
Any idea how to work out how much by?
Also not knowing what wheels were on the car from new, i am not entirely sure what it was set up with....when i pass speed cameras, it does appear that my '30' is the bloke in fronts 30...but can't be sure.
Is it just a case of keep well under at cameras, or is there a really simple answer i am not seeing?
Thanks,
Mike.

You might find a plug in sat nav (such as the Tom Tom) useful here. I use one of those which has a speedo built in together with a scamera database. I was sceptical at first but it shows the changes in speed limits on UK roads (excluding temporary limits) as soon as you pass them, e.g. coming into a 30mph zone. It suggests the speedo in my Volvo is over reading by about 4 to 5% which is probably about right. Since it works from satellite positioning the errors on your car speedo don't affect it. Might save you some points.

Tried the sat nav speedo in my van but it always looked like it was playing catch up to me??...didn't look accurate. smile

My car is 2002, did they really put in a switch?...sounds like a smart idea...there again being new to the forum, it could be the old "fetch the sky hooks lad" scenario.............. smilesmile

Thankyou,
Mike.

Tsk! Tsk! What a suspicious mind!

A permanent, accurate, cheap alternative is to fit a bike speedo like the Sigma. For some reason they're capable of displaying up to 199 mph. Some offer functions like recording maximum speed.

Hi MIke,

our SV is a 2002 and on the back of the 'lectronic speedo there are 4 tiny dip switches. Apparently those are partially used for tyre size, but as our car "ate" 3 speedos in its first year, we're on a mechanical speedo now.

Always use our Garmin when in the car so the speedo is naught for use now, but always been on 14" tyres, although considering dropping down to 13's @ winter rebuild so afraid I can't be a whole lot of other help.

Perhaps someone will be along shortly who knows the magic combo for the 'letronic speedos??

Mine is mechanical!
Think i may stick with the 13" but then anthracite black, with cr500's look mighty fine!!
wonder if i could swap a small child for them??...It's a win win situation fo moi! smilesmile
not sure the bike speedo would help?
Unless as well as counting the revolutions of your wheel, it also has provision for entering the radius of your wheel?...or Summit?? smile

13s are the best for handling anyway!

If you go at a steady speed and let the sat nav catch up you can see how far out your speedo is.

If you are swapping 205/55 R13 for 195/45 R15, then the diameter is identical Good info here: http://www.avonracing.com/road_legal_page.aspx

You've guessed it, you set the wheel size. Also has trip and average speed etc...

It's a push bike speedo that they're on about. Best one for the job seems to be made by Sigma. It's wired, not wireless due to the engine interfering with the signal.

I'd go to any cycle shop. Or try wiggle.co.uk / chainreactioncycles.com for online bike shops
