Advisories on MOT
Discussion
Passed the MOT on Monday, but with a couple of advisories:
001: Nearside track rod end ball joint has slight play
002: Nearside rear shock absorber has a slightly reduced damping effect
003: Nearside rear shock absorber has a light misting of oil
So, what do I need and where do I get them?

er, I think you've answered your own questions in part001: Nearside track rod end ball joint has slight play
002: Nearside rear shock absorber has a slightly reduced damping effect
003: Nearside rear shock absorber has a light misting of oil
So, what do I need and where do I get them?
1) a track rod end
2) a rear damper
3) (2) will mean (3) is not relevant.
Go to caterham parts for a quick (but expensive) fix....
Redline Components http://www.redlinecomponents.co.uk/ ?
Around the corner from Caterham South and there are positive comments on Blatchat about price/service etc etc
I've not visited them - yet.
Hope that helps

A track rod end from Caterham is about 14 quid. Maybe you can get cheaper, but it's not what I'd call expensive.
Shock absorber depends on which type you have. But you'll need to replace them as a pair.
Caterham on-line store is quick and easy, and the parts will be with you in a couple of days.
Or, you can drive/shop around to save a few quid. Depends on what price you put on your time.

I've already ordered the TRE from Caterham - £14 won't break the bank.Shock absorber depends on which type you have. But you'll need to replace them as a pair.

As far as the shocks go, whilst I'm as keen to support Caterham's business as the next man, I just wanted to see if there was an alternative to a (let's face it) rather expensive option.
Maybe I'm too used to sourcing car parts from any Joe Bloggs supplier and not being tied down to a single outlet.
A lot of folks seem to rave about Nitrons. Never heard of them before the sheeplike wisdom of Blatchat though, and I've never used them, so couldn't personaly recomend them.
I was always a Billie man myself. Although I'm thinking of giving some Penske a go.
I liked the Billies with adjustable platforms on my R300, but I'd like to go for something with alloy bodies this time around, to help keep down the unspung weight.

And these seem to be the latest fashion statement. http://www.quantumracing.co.uk/

Perhaps not, but you an get them from motor factors for about £3:50. It's not the price, it's the ludicrous mark up that people object toI've got plenty of good second hand shocks if you want some (from race cars that are upgraded after a year so only got a few thousand miles on them)
