Any ideas what I would get for my Caterham if I sold it now?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I am thinking of selling the Caterham.....values seem to be all over the place so I am a little unsure what its is worth, spec is:
• 2.3 litre Ford Duratec engine 280 bhp, 210 lb/ft
• Keywayed and balanced crankshaft
• Engine fully balanced
• Kent cams
• Titan dry sump with single pressure and double scavenge stages
• Pace dry sump tank
• Steel connecting rods (Arrow)
• Forged pistons
• Vandervell VP2 BE shells
• 280 degree cams with 11.3 mm lift
• Uprated valve springs and steel retainers
• Vernier adjustable valve timing gears
• 45mm direct to head Jenvey throttle bodies machined to match inlet ports with 8 injectors
• Uprated fuel rail and injectors with 90mm ram pipes and foam air filter
• Titan 8.5” lightweight steel flywheel
• AP uprated clutch and spigot bearing
• Engine assembled with ARP fasteners and stud kits
• Competition alternator fitted to right hand side of engine
• Modified front timing cover to remove idler boss.
• Raceline Duratec R cam cover
• Fully ported head
• Omega forged pistons
• Pipercross foam filter
• Straight cut, close ratio Quaiffe gearbox 5 speed 2.04 1st, 0.87 5th
• Heavy duty needle roller bearing pro box by Road and Race Transmissions
• 3.62 ZF Diff supplied by Road and Race transmissions
• Uprated front brakes
• Radtec radiator
• Raceline stainless steel exhaust system upgraded to 1 ¾” primaries with SVA and non cat cans
• Emerald ECU
• Silicon hoses
• Lightweight bellhousing and slave cylinder
• AVO pro race SA1000 shocks
• Silver anodised aerofiller cap
• Rerouted brakelines and wiring to left hand side of engine bay away from exhaust primaries
• Uprated fuel pump
• Lowered drivers floorplan
• Strengthened differential mounts
• Battery master switch (FIA)
• Widetrack
• Aluminium Caterham gearknob
• Clearcoated carbon fibre front cycle wings (not shown in pictures)
• Yoko AO48R Soft 185/60x13 front tyres on 6x13 8 spoke Caterham wheels
• Yoko AO48R Medium 205/60x13 rear tyres on 8x13 8 spoke Caterham wheels
• Ventureshield protecting film on vulnerable areas
• SVC upgraded Caterham lights-smaller than stock part
• JPE aeroscreen
• Powervamp battery
• MOMO model 26 black suede steering wheel (260mm)
• Carbon fibre stoneguards on rear wings
• Full superlight rollcage
• Starter button
• Pearlescent Honda Monte Carlo Blue
• TOAD immobiliser
• Car registered March 2007
New clutch, just serviced, 7k miles, New geo just done to the same spec as the R500 that set the Topgear lap time.
Any ideas? It has been super reliable and the higher torque make its very driveable.
Cheers in advance!
Dave

I would hazard a guess at somewhere around £26-£29k market depending, spec is very similar to my car that i sold 15 months ago, mine was full spec 2.3 duratec 280-300bhp (depending on rolling road,) race chassis / had full caged/cage and was ready to race road registered taxd/mot think cant remember exactly but think i advertised mine for £23k ish ?? was an older car than yours though and had been converted to a high standard by hwr motorsport.
would be the time of year to sell it though!

Yes it is a nice example. You don't have to rev it hard to get the most out of it due to all the torque and a lot of people come up to me and ask in disbelief "what on earth size engine have you got in there!?" I may pop it up for sale with a view to selling at a decent price if it works for me.
Cheers

Dave,
Was it you playing cat and mouse with a Duratech R500 on the last Odiham trackday?
If so, you car was pulling away from the R500 quite easily (I had a ride in the R500)

I believe so. Mine is dark blue. It is fast, reliable and now handles rather well too Was it you playing cat and mouse with a Duratech R500 on the last Odiham trackday?

I am there again this weekend but plan to take the GT2 down.

I still can't believe how quick both your cars were, although I get the impression that a lot was down to driving as there was another new R500 there which I was keeping up with by the end of the day!
Yeah true, Odiham is a bit dull but it is close to home so I am happy to pop down for a bit of fun and I enjoy the overtaking on either side. The straight is a bit long and boring and almost pulls your head off with the aeroscreen vmaxing at 155mph! I am taking a few more horses on Sunday....530bhp to be precise

I've just had a look for track days at Odiham and a few sites only have the date 17th October.
Any idea where I'd find other dates - I assume there are more as you are there on Sunday...
Just down the road from me so ideal if they had more on.
There aren't many each year. The one on Sunday is probably sold out?I've just had a look for track days at Odiham and a few sites only have the date 17th October.

They're run by RMA if that helps. Shocking drivers briefing, but the overtaking rules are good!

Sorry, I thought you had posted here in order to seek opinions on what it is worth...yet you already seem to have your own idea. You need to consider the fact that it is not a factory car and will be right in the sights of a nearly new DR500 at the price you think it's worth. I know there can be a lot of debate about whether your car's spec is better than that of an DR500 but it still comes back to factory car versus non-factory. For those reasons, I would recommend you price it below £30,000.But it sounds a good spec. and good luck in selling it.
