After 14 years of gathering dust in the garage i have finaly put my caterham replica (sorry!) back on the road.

Question. Its running a silver top Ford Zetec 2.0 Engine (From a M reg mondeo) with twin weber 45 DCOE carbs, on a Dunnell 3d ignition system. The carbs need setting up (its coughing and spluttering) and i wondered if anyone can recomend a jetting spec for the above.

Thanks in advance.

you might get more response by posting this in the kit car forum as I dont think too many guys run zetecs in their caterhams.

Oh they do!
There are a large number of Zetec installation - I have a 210BHP one.

The main problem is you really need 5 progression hole 45 for a Zetec.

But, a good starting point for jets is:
36 Choke
145 Main Jet
155 Air Jet
50 F6 Idle
45 Pump Jet
40 Spill Valve
F16 Emulsion Tube

Also what size chokes do you have? - smaller gives better driveability but a little less top end power.

as it says above - 36mm chokes. Drives real easy, and no loss of power...

When I had my standard 2L Black Top on carbs it produced 165bhp on the rolling road with the following set up:
34mm chokes
145 mains
F16 emulsions
175 Air Jet
50F9 idles
45 Pump Jet

I was told (by Sigma Enginnering) that the 34mm chokes made it more drivable and better for road use, which it certainly was. JMPO smile

I was thinking the original posters carbs may be over choked without extra progression hole...

I have been running a 2.0L Zetec since the mid 90's - been great. Thought I'd change the carbs for new ones a few years ago and had a major problem trying to set them up - failed miserably in the end and it was pointed out to me that the carbs supplied were for a Vauxhall and had 4 progression holes. This meant that the carbs were impossible to tune through their range.
After loads of threats and swearing the company took them back and I purchased ones from Weber 'designed' for the Zetec and with the 5 progression holes.
Been running sweetly ever since!
There's a nifty little programme available that will give you a fair idea of the basic jettings etc. - just do a web search for "jetting.exe". (it pretty well matches the advice already listed here)
