Looks good value to me. Is it a known car?

Could maybe enquire at Woodcote Sports Cars (that's the same neck of the woods isn't it?) to see if it's known there. I agree, it sounds like very good value on the face of it. Half tempted to upgrade to that one myself for sub-£12k.

Searching blatchat, one of the original (or maybe the original one who did the upgrade work) is :

My current car has tillets/cut-off switch and no heater but was not a race car.

My first car (1995) was supplied as a "C-Class" racer but never saw the track whilst with it's first owner - these were Caterham 1400SS K-Series cars with 5 speed box, LSD, cut-off switch, Minister sealed engine and the big oil warning light in the middle of the dash. This car looks very similar. Due to the good price and track orientated spec many owners bought these cars without any intention of racing them.

I swapped my old car to 1800cc, fitted TBs and an Emerald and sold it for £11K. IMHO, with a 6sp box, this car is priced sensibly - looking at the pictures the wiring may need some attention but that's not to say it would be unreliable left exactly as it is. The age of the car will always limit its' value but the spec is right up there with R300s etc., or an original Superlight at 2-3K more.

Edited to add - all cars of this era including race cars were supplied with a spare wheel carrier. The wheel retention hole in the rear panel has either been nicely filled or the rear panel replaced. This does make it more desireable though combined with the rest of the spec.

Stu.

yes I assume it's got a slot in the bulkhead so you can plug a laptop in from the passenger seat

Exactly. Sort the wiring and in doing so position the Emerald to get at the sockets!
