I wouldn't want to go far without a deflector and without a helmet on. The aeroscreens are surprisingly effective, especially if you're not particularly tall.In between full air-brake and Brooklands screens, I drove my Birkin S3 with no screen.
It was erm, breezy, but without the buffeting that the full airbrake creates.
Brooklands screens suit the look of a Seven, and as others have commented, work surprisingly well at deflecting the breezes.
As an added bonus, they make a Seven look sweet and harmless...speshly if you also happen to have clamshells.

I've also got the left hand side one to improve things for the passenger. I fitted them using rivnuts which are hidden by the windscreen rubber when the windscreen is fitted.
