And by "cold", it would appear I mean anything cooler than the surface of the sun.

Even on the relatively mild mornings we've had recently, my 7 is very reluctant to start first time. Turn key, press BRB, fires up, dies. Press BRB again, starts up, dies. Press BRB again, bit of throttle, starts up, keeps up. Put in first gear and go to move off, dies.

Repeat ad nauseum until I'm on the main road and can keep the throttle down a bit. I feel sorry for my neighbours, as I leave for work at silly-o'clock in the morning (even on a Saturday).

The nice chap what I bought it off suggested that it might not like cold starts because when the Emerald ECU was set up, it was done on a nicely warmed-up engine, so the Emerald doesn't "get" cold starts.

Does that sound about right? Would a re-map of the ECU done cold solve this? I've got the Emerald software and the laptop connections, but it's not something I'd fancy trying myself.

Same thing with our Duratec 175. I just tweeked up the throttle stop screw (idle adjust). Cured it just fine. No ECU messing required. Try a 1/8 or 1/4 turn, depending on the thread of your adjuster.
YMMV obviously

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Think it's a 3mm allen key. Get your better half to sit in the car and press the throttle to keep it going then wind the stop a bit, then adjust till it idles easily on its own smile

It's not that hard

1 Connect your pc to the ECU

2 Go to COMs read map, you should now have the map on the PC

3 Check that the ecu is getting the right coolant information (live adjustment on the bottom tabs should give all the info that the ECU thinks it has)

4 Go to additional maps and select IACV (idle air control valve)

5 You can then play with the IACV % to get sensible revs when cold. Obviously you can only do this when it's cold so don't fire it up until you're ready

6 Panic and repost the question smile

Our Emerald got remapped / SW upgraded in Dec whilst some other major electrical work was being done. Ratrace was wondering if a problem they were seeing was related to Emerald SW versions. They sent it to Karl @ Emerald, who installed a colder starting map and she starts every time now. I don't know if he's released the SW, or you have to send your ECU to him.

But it definitely made quite a difference!!!!

Ah, I fall at the first hurdle; I live in a 2nd floor flat and don't have a laptop, so unless I can get hold of a 50' cable, I'm stumped.

Thanks, that's worth looking into.
