Hi, I have recently purchased some 8x13 inch rear wheels and 6x13 for the front for my 7 and wonder if anyone know's the best size tyre's ?? Obviously Caterham suggest the CR500 but there must be other options out there ??

What sort of 7 have you got?

Generalising, I'd suggest 185/60 on the front and 205/60 on the back. Have used these sizes on my SLR-ish spec 7 for a long time and they work nicely.

You could go a size smaller on the front and/or a size or two bigger on the rear. But doubt you'll gain much in terms of outright performance.

Scroll down here to the CR500 section, for the sizes available.

Yes there are other options, but IMO they are the best all round tyre. Good in the wet, grippy and predictable in the dry.

Standard are 175/55 on 6" and 205/55 on 8". (That's what my R500 came with, anyway.)

Another more dry/track-focused option is the new Avon ZZR (same sizes as CR500).

According to BMTR it's been delayed lots, but hopefully it'll be available in the net few weeks.

For any kind of track use I would recommend cheap used slicks - it will save you a fortune. You may go a little wider at the rear too, for a bot more grip.

I wouldn't use slicks unless you have a dry sump fitted.

CR500s are good, but expensive. Yoko used to be very fine alternatives, but not sure what their current range is like...
