Hey guys,

Wondering how much backlash any of you with new R500D's with the sequential have in the drive train. To be honest can't decide if it's getting worse or not, but if the car is in first without the engine running there is about a 12" of back and forth roll pushing the car in the driveline.

Anyone comment?

I made the same comment when I first got my R500D with Quaife Sequential Box.

Caterham told me it was normal, and I have to say that I have now learnt to live with it.

As the Gearbox and drive train is so noisy, I always wear earplugs, so the problem seems to go away!!

I do also think that the slack seems to be going away with more miles on the car, as it is getting better to drive the more and harder I drive it.

Hope you are having fun with your R500.

Nige.

Many thanks Nigel.

Yes having great fun with the car and it's building up lots of track miles already.

Only notice the backlash on the road when trickling along, the box is perfect on track but acceptable on the road if a little loud!

Silverstone again on Tuesday to play with all the GT3s, should be fun!

You'll have backlash in the diff too.

I just checked this on my R500.

I don't even have 3 inch's of rolling movement on my car when its in 1st.

I seem to recall that when my car went back to CC to have the gearbox replaced I asked them to look at the diff backlash, so perhaps they took out as much play as possible then.

I would suggest that as my car and Martins car seem to have quite a lot less rolling free play than your car, you get CC to look at it.

Let me know if you need any more info.

Nige.

Yup, sounds like I should get it booked in for them to have a look over it.
