I went round Bedford Autodrome with a chap called Peter Unwin, very kindly showed me what his crazily fast R500 can do, nothing was a match for it. 100k 360 Ferrari, GT3 911's, you name it and i'll beat it! It also has attached a hige rear wing which Pete has said has made a huge differance. Anyone seen the car? He's been to quite a few track days. I'd say from experience the R500 is plenty quick enough as it is!! The R600 or whatever they will call it would be insane...does anyone know of the quickest 7?

Depends what you mean by quickest. There's a guy on Blatchat who has a BDR 1600(?) Caterham that pumps out 300BHP (normally aspirated) and I believe it weighs around 420kgs, that gives a power to weight ratio of >700bhp/tonne (explains why he calls it an R700)

I imgae that'll do 0-100mph < 7 seconds

Yep thats Dave, but remember that his car is not a track car........... but a drag car. You should hear the sound of his DBR at full tilt,LOVELY

See

I'll check the link out, thanks - 700 brake per tonne! I think what I found so interesting about that 500 in particular was that even with it's huge rear wing and race like performance, the thing is registered and road legal! There's another trackday at Bedford 24th April, any of you guys thinking of going? Think that Green rocket will be there again!! Although he has also got a JP1 Jag on order, will it be faster than the R500?! Not sure about avaibility - check out www.rma-limited.co.uk

Given the JP1 Jag is similar speed to a Radical SR3, yes, it will thrash the R500.

Guys, how can you compare these cars to an R500?...they have aerodynamics - nothing this side of an F3000 car will beat them on track, but where's the real fun in that?...any monkey can lap faster than anything else in a car with downforce & slicks.

I think Radicals & JP1s and their ilk are fab fun, but I can't help thinking that ultimately the fun to be had in track day hoonery diminishes in one of these, unless you have the balls to get one sideways that is!

You can compare them because you can compare the cost no? Besides, there is some fun in going very fast around bends and incredible braking - and I bet I can outdrive a monkey .

Sideways is no problem... holding it there certainly is! Quite forgiving but you have to be pretty quick. I have a set of crap Yoko's to try some gooning though.

Sorry Danny doesn't stack up. I can go and buy a 10 year old F3000 for £30k easily and trash you in your Radical - that's what happens when you try to compare on price alone.

Fact is they are really 2 different animals and both superb within their own spheres.

Good luck with the hooning around - I bet a Rad's hard to hold sideways - after all the wings are designed to work in one direction only

Ah - but you can't take a passenger in an F3000 car... which means it's harder to get friends along to help out

Yep - apparently the wing suddenly stops working at around 20deg sideways, so definitely min angle first. Radical warned against removing entirely since you can't adjust front downforce.
