Hey guys,

Before I buy a trackday silencer direct from Caterham, any advise on where I should be looking to buy one?

Cheers

Powerspeed, RaceCo?

Give them both a call and let them know what you're after, and you'll get some sensible ball park quotes back.

If you want to spend some cash, BTB in Silverstone are worth a call!

Also try "Good Fabs". Very nice kit indeed. Although you won't need anything in inconnel which is zircotec coated hehethumbup

I got mine from Ammo at Raceco, I would recommend him and his companies products to anyone.

Nigel, have you managed to run your car at Bedford? I'm thinking about getting a RaceCo silencer for mine but not sure if the induction/gearbox noise would be an issue too.

Ed, got your email too.

No I have not been to Bedford in my R500 Duratec as yet, but that is one of the reasons for getting the RaceCo silencer from Ammo.

My R500 does have the CC Track Day Induction box, but not sure if that helps much, as mine was measured at Oulton Park at 105db and on lower than normal revs too.

Did you know that a lot of the measured noise in our cars comes from the Quaife Sequential gearbox?

This is also the reason that CC have taken it off the options on the New Price List, as it will not pass the noise limit for a new car when going through the IVA.

I hope to get mine measured again soon with the RaceCo silencer, to see what the noise level is, Ammo thought it would be less than 98db.

Will be interesting to see.

Nige.

I think mine was the first R500 duratec to have a Raceco silencer fitted in the early part of last year. Straight after it was fitted we used Mike's noise meter and it registered 98db @ 6400 so it ought to get through the static test at Bedford without too much effort. It's clearly much quieter as I can now hear the gearbox & diff (I don't have the sequential btw).

Drive by may be more of a problem particularly if, as Nigel says, you have the sequential. I'm sure CC told me, when I was buying the car, that someone had managed Bedford with CC's track day airbox & big silencer so it ought to be possible.

Yeah will be interesting to see what noise they do make, Silverstone has never been an issue for me with noise (I've even managed to run my 355 there which is decat and fitted with a Tubi).

The standard exhaust on mine after a good few miles is a bit loud and throws lots of flames, pops and bangs now.... we'll see on Friday just how loud it is. I do have the airbox fitted as well so we can do some comparisons.

I've had these noise readings... static ones with clutch in. I knew the gearbox was loud but didn't realise it was the main contributor to drive-by noise.

I have got the track day exhaust and track day airbox for mine, and the sequential box... so not the noiseiest car but not the quietest either.

Woodbridge:
Static - 96db @ 4500rpm

Bedford:
Static - 96.3db @ 4300rpm (limit was 101db)
Drive by - 90.1db @ 8500rpm (limit was 87.5db, I got one lap and went home)

I have done Silverstone and Brands Indy in the car with no noise problems.

Maybe me and SpeedYellow can compare noise readings tomorrow to see the difference between our specs.
