Just curious, how long do Caterhams generally last before going pop? e.g. how many miles will the r500 last for without serious engines revamps etc. I dont own a Caterham but they're my dream car and one i'd hopefully own in a few years but this has always played on my mind!
Also, how are they on long distances??? Like touring europe!?!?!

Sorry for the random questions!

cheers

The 244bhp K series engine I assembled a few years ago (around 2004) is still going well. It must have covered 15K miles by now and has been "reconfirmed" on the rollers recently.

A Duratec at race speeds ought to last a season. On the road, it'll last indefinitely.

Yep it's still nice and sweet (if not a bit mad!).

I took a 1700 crosflow on a 6000 mile six week trip (full of camping gear) from Holland to italy via Nurburgring (where it got a thrashing round the Nordschilef (excuse the spelling)), over a few Swiss passes, round some great roads in France and back home again. Never missed a beat. Had no problem with comfort. Just make sure you have a soft seat and your springs and dampers arn't set too hard. I had leather Caterham seats. Or you can always half inflate a small blow up cushion.

simply put: maintain and respect the vehicle and it'll deliver smilesmile

seriously we've got a 2002 SV-VHPD motor, done 30-40K on it. driven it all over the EU, around Ireland, Scotland, too many track days to count, did the 4,000 mile USA2005 event, taken it with us to Oz, all over the Alps, been down ti Rome.

Parts count: 1 CRB, clutch plate, bunch o' spark plugs, 1 thermostat, 1 pair wiper blades, normal fluids at 1/2 the recommended intervals and did new hoses last year when clutch/CRB replaced..

That's all.......
