Have had my interest tweeked in getting a Caterham, probably an R400 looking at the information available. Is there a recommended independant in the West Yorkshire area that specialises in servicing, or am I better hooking up with a local garage to see whether they can help?

As you may be able to tell, I am far from a spanner man (although willing to learn, but I expect it would be a gradual process), so would need someone reasonably local to maintain the car after purchase - say post trackday runs etc.

All this sparked from a trip to Elvington the other week - it's been a while since I was on track, and I'm itching to get back out there!

I had my R300 serviced at jct600 brooklands. If they can look after fezzer, lotus and aston, they can cope with a caterham

My caterham got the whole workshop looking at the car.

Surrounded by millions of pounds worth of cars.

My aston is looked after by them

Don't get too hung up on who services it. You need someone who knows what they are doing with performance cars.

A service with them was about 190 quid. I selected the ferrari stamp for the book for a laugh !

They made sure I got the oil caterham recommend.

Thanks Simon. Actually, now you come to mention it, I do recall seeing a Caterham down there the last time I popped in for a nose around - I am guessing around May-June last year. They had an Aston on the verge painted in Gulf colours at the time. Very tasty. Maybe it was your Caterham??

Good advice, taken - cheers mate.

It was there for just a saturday morning in mid to late may 2008. I planned to take it to Le Mans, but the hoses were badly cracked so they told me not to risk it.

There are probably other specialist in the regio who would take care of you, but at the time I had little spare time so used jct.

In many respects it is the kind of car you could service yourself. But it depends on whether you want a service history of some sort if you come to sell it. If you are paranoid about service history then a trip to caterham north is your best bet
