Am going to be helping my Dad sell his Superlight R and not sure what it should be worth sold privately.

Spec is:

'99 T-reg SLR No 51
5k miles
Oil surge tank
13'' with ACB10's and spare
plus set of minilites with wets
hood
leather sports seats
Deep metallic red.

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated

Standard Superlights seem to have come down to around £15k. The Rs don't tend to command quite the premium you might expect, but given it's very low mileage, well specced, and presumably in good condition (mature owner etc.) I'd hazard a guess of up to £17k? The answer is really to scan the classifieds I reckon.

confused

Since when do SLRs not command "quite" the premium you might expect over SLs??????????????????????????

With those miles and in nice condition I would put it up for £18,500 and it ought to sell at that price very quickly indeed. It's an easy £3,500 better than a Superlight......and an easy £1,000 better than an R300!!!!! Anyone who has driven/owned both an SLR/SL (as I have) knows just how much of a machine the SLR is....and the SL's hardly a slug either!

Maybe they were rough examples but when I was looking for a Superlight at about £14-15k the SLRs were out of my budget, but not by very much. I saw several advertised for circa £16,000. I didn't have the money so I didn't investigate any further (maybe they were dogs?) but it just struck me that the [i]financial/i] premium wasn't as great as expected on those particular examples.

Can't say I've ever driven an SLR, but I have driven a handful of Superlights on road and track and they are indeed a superb spec. Not a lot you couldn't spec as a cost option on a standard Roadsport admittedly, but the Superlight does have all the right bits.

TBH Chris, you can find SLRs at prices around those of Superlights...I bought my SLR for £15k for instance back in 2002 and sold it a couple of years later for £18k...but in general the premium is around £3k on a like for like basis.

Like all things, look hard enough and put enough effort into it and you can find cars that buck the trend....as you say though, a Superlight has all the right bits from the get-go and it makes no financial sense to spec a Roadsport or even a Supersport to that level.
