Caterham SV chassis and a tall 6' 6" pilot
Discussion
A simple question for the Caterham owners out there, how well does the SV chassis (as I think that's what I'd need) cater for a 6'6" well built (I'm not fat, just big boned!!!) soul?
Most of my height is in my body (34" inside leg)
I'm wondering if I might like to use some of my savings to purchase a Caterham (Roadsport version I think), but before I even venture to look at one and suffer the potential embarrassment of being laughed out of the showroom, I wondered if there are any tall Caterham owners on PH who are around my size, who could provide some pointers/assistance.
Oh and one other "slight" problem - I take a size 16 shoe (I'll wait for another joke ), I'm not sure if that will cause any issues with getting my large plates to the pedals.
Regards
Mike

The SV chassis gives increased interior and luggage space due to the greater width and length of the car, making it suited for extended touring or for customers over 6’2” in height.
From 6'2" to 6'6" is only 4" but 4" could make all the difference (and this being PH, I'll wait for someone to crack a joke). Most of my height is in my body (34" inside leg)

I am 6'5" and fit in the SV / CSR with no problem. 34" inside leg as well. It is better with a lowered floor though. I only have size 10 feet though (I fall over a lot) so can't help with the pedals - although I am sure that you will find it tight compared to a normal car!
If the car you try doesn't have a lowered floor, then take the seat out and try it sitting on the carpet - it will give you an idea of how low you can get if you make your own foam seat.

A friend's son who is 6'5" with size 15 feet has driven his car, a standard S3 (though barefoot). The SV has more space around the pedals (which are all adjustable). Whereas most people have to wear Speedcats or similar to fit their feet in the standard chassis, they can wear any old shoes in an SV.
Get yourself round to the showroom in Caterham and try some out for size. You'll be welcome to try any cars they have in there.

I can vouch for Steve (SJM) being a big lump as I work with him!
We've had 6ft 5 in our SV and I guess about 17st.
The pedal box is fine but in many ways unless you have big feet or wide shoes it's not as much fun as a Supersport for example as heel toeing is tricky.
We resisted getting an SV but it's a fantastic car and the feedback from customers so far is excellent (though it helps that ours looks cool as well). The longer track and wider wheelbase IMHO helps the car. I hear that the weight gain is only 25kg and again if you go for a 140bhp k series or upwards, the additional SV weight is not an issue, especially when you consider a passenger could e 80kg upwards!
Best of luck and sure you'll love it.
Cheers
Scott.

I'm 6' 5 1/2", 17 stone, with size 13/14 feet, and drive an S3 with a lowered floor, bag seat, and the pedals on their middle setting. An SV will feel roomy by comparisson.Get yourself round to the showroom in Caterham and try some out for size. You'll be welcome to try any cars they have in there.
Information on foam seat that lets you sit lower in the car
Also, some pictures to see how much headroom you can get in an SV:
Normal seat - no lowered floor. This would put top of helmet in line with the top of the roll bar
Lowered floor and foam seat in an SV - plenty of room
Lowered floor and normal seat in a CSR
