Any tips starting in cold weather
Discussion
Well after my first weekend of owning a Caterham (I couldn't have asked for better conditions ) I have a question. Are there any known problems starting a K series from cold (-3 ish)? I don't have a garage and so lives under a cover. Sunday morning, cover comes off, jump in, turn the key and the engine turned over but didn't burst into life. A few more tries and the battery was starting to suffer. Eventualy it started with a jump start from my other halfs car. She's not going to let me forget that! The car had a good run on Saturday, it has a new battery. Is there anything I should check or do to help in cold weather?
It could be any of a multitude of things. Basically the ECU isn't giving the engine enough fuel, so it could be anything from a dodgy temp sensor (telling the car that's it's hotter than it is) to the ECU itself.
AS it started with a jump I would start with obvious things like making sure the battery is fullycharged

I can't usefully answer the question you asked, but I've been having had similar issues with my MX-5 which has been sat outside in the winter, while we were building the R300 in the garage. What I did was pop down to Halfords and pick one of these up:
Ring 40Ah starter pack
It really does the job and I can see it coming in useful in coming years for the R300. Saves going begging for a jump, and you can even pop it in the boot if you don't trust the battery for getting you home later.
