I'm not sure any were ever sold. 49 Caterham 21s made it onto the road, but I think only 2 GTOs were built (silver and orange) - happy to be corrected on this though. Dave P's site www.caterham21.com will undoubtedly know more.

There's definitely one in the states. Dave P has contact with them. I'm not sure about the cars that ran in the Belcar races in 98. 4 or 5 cars are mentioned with different drivers but they weren't all 21GTOs - actually none were!

So...not that many sadly, that Caterham 21c stands also for coupe?
are there also 21 with hardtop or is the GTO also a hardtop version of the 21.

at the time they came out they also mentioned LHD but seeing not many made are there LHD 21 at all?

and all made with only the rover k-series?

There are 48 built mostly with the K series, one with a Duratec, one with the RSV8 I think

I have one with a 1.8K VVC on roller barrels as per the picture.

Ah, I also just read that story from you? on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caterham_21

but I don't read LHD 21, though I guess a few are made in LHD from those 48 or not...

No LHD ones to my knowledge but several abroad now, US, Germany, Finland, US, Japan and maybe others.
There is one Duratec car, one Vauxhall powered (2 if you count the original ali bodied one in japan) but AFAIK all the production ones were K series. The customer Vauxhall engined car was a later conversion as was the Duratec.
Options were 1.6/1.6ss, 1.8/1.8ss, 1.8vvc, 1.8vhpd.
I think the 98 Belcar cars had retro fitted hard tops for racing and the 99 GTOs were built with hard tops.

I still think that its a real shame that it was canned. It should have been a Ginetta G50 type car before Ginetta even thought of it. Ahead of the time & a missed opportunity. But CAterham could reintroduce, I suppose

I wouldn't be suprised if they already had a close eye on what Ginetta are doing, they have all the makings of it already, great engine in the Duratec, Quaife gearbox, great chassis, add a GRP aero body and some other bits and you'd have a great GT car....i'd buy one

No LHD models for certain sure. Urs bought his new and would have taken a LHD version had one been available.
In terms of engines: the two (ali bodied) prototypes were Vauxhall engined and Paul Jacobs built his with a VX. All the others were K series originally. Since then, as Jack says, conversions have been done.
Two race cars (i.e. hard-top GT. One still in Belgium and one now at what used to be Great Lakes Caterham in Michegan. This latter is the one into which Russell Savory has put one of his RST V8 engines.
Another car is being converted from it's original form into a GT for racing purposes.

so, no LHD cars origianally made, and the 2 race GTO's have hardtop so not a coupe....

is there more info about that RST V8 version? or pictures...

just found 2 very nice standard 21's in Germany for sale, they do cost though, and both indeed RHD, one 21 VHPD and one VVC

I don't recognise either of those 2 German cars - perhaps Dave P does. I have a feeling at least 4 are over there now but for 2 to be for sale from the same place is a surprise.
Fairly sure Urs bought his used but no doubt he would have prefered a LHD if one existed.

when you look at the dash it looks like its "easy" to convert it to LHD both parts look the same drivers side and passengers site of dash?

I thought caterham did this to make it easy for the LHD market, when the car came out I saw it on the carshow in the Netherlands the first year, a green one.

I have a feeling the exhaust causes a few issues putting the steering rack on for LHD.

don't know how it all looks under the hood, so then you need another engine with the exhaust on the other side? K-series the exhaust sits left? like a Duratec...hm, a 2.3 or 2.0 duratec isn't bad in such car I think.

Jochim Westermann bought one car from Britain (silver, lived on the south coast for a while, then was bought by Graham Lyall) and the very low mileage example from Monaco. I didn't realise that he was selling both, I had thought that he was planning to keep one of them.

Actually things are coming back to me: I think that there was one 21GTO nad one 21R.
The former is in the USA and has the RST. There are pictures on Caterham21.com
The former is still in Belgium.

For more details contact david at Caterham 21.com Do you want me to bring this thread to his attention?

Yes would be nice to read more about those specials, the one with the RST must be mental biggrin

Ginetta uses a nice lightweight V8 too, the Zytek V8, but think both are very expensive.
