any one have any experience/knowledge on low oil pressure on a 1.8vx sohc engine.
On start up (cold) pressure is 2bar on guage, then when upto temp it drops into red. engine pulls strong and does not smoke. I have heard that this is a common problem with these engines and it's nothing to worry about. even heard that the caterham guage isn,t reliable. Mileage is 20k full service history on a1999 car.
Any thoughts as i'm considering buying it.

Yep senders and gauges are notoriously unreliable. The gauge is of rubbish quality and the sender sits in quite a vunerable location and leads a tough life as a result. I've had one sender and one gauge failure go in less than 5 years of Sevening so I've now switched to a mechanical oil pressure gauge.

I thought it might be the case, so I've arranged to buy and collect the car this week. worse case a second hand replacement engine will only cost £200 off ebay and easy job to swop.
