Hi,

So, after a few weeks of searching PH and Caterham ads, one popped up that really caught my eye.....
Off we went to Caterham on Saturday, and with all the advice from friends and the same voice in my own mind saying "don't get carried away, you don't have to get the first one you see" etc etc, I fell in love and knew I wouldn't be leaving without a purchase.....

Since my first drive in a caterham (BAT, Angelsea last year) - I knew I would have to own one sooner or later! And even though I wont be picking it up for a couple of weeks, the excitement is more than I could have imagined! This next two weeks is going to feel like years! (Reminds me of being a kid waiting for Christmas to come......)

Only minor thorn is that being the well organised idiot that I am, I bought before actually getting insurance quotes... Fingers crossed!!

Here she is: http://www.caterham.co.uk/assets/html/preowned/pre...

Thanks everyone for all your advice in my previous post (yes yes, some of it I've clearly not listened to!)

Cant wait to have my first weekend in a Caterham!!!!

God I'm excited!!!!!!!!!!

excellent, well done nice spec, nice car.

But "hairdresser purple" are you sure? I assume you'll be getting a colour-change. biggrin

Seriously though, good choice it'll be a hoot. Insurace should be ok unless you are 17!

In the end I didn't look at the black one too closely.. I loved the colour of the purple one (guess it's a love it or hate it colour) and I think the mileage was quite a bit lower too.

There were a couple of lovely R300s down there as well... I managed to prevent myself looking at those... Perhaps one for a couple of years down the line

Wow - it just gets better and better! I'd done a quick insurance browse through comparison sites on Friday, and was seeing figures in the 1.5-2k range (I have 0 NCB , as live in central london and haven't had to drive for 2 years)..... Phoned up a broker today - and..... £486!! Unbelievable!

Not surprised. Specialist cars like Caterhams, TVRs and kits cost peanuts to insure. Provided you can garage it and don't need a huge mileage allowance they are significantly cheaper to insure than even the most mundane production car - I'm pretty high risk (age, occupation, location, recent claim) and yet the premium for mine is half that of my poverty-spec 1.6 Focus shopping car. The same with the TVR and various other toys beforehand. It actually works out cheaper than having one single all-round coupe or sports saloon from a mainstream manufacturer!

Ohter than the radio, thats a fantastic car. I'm intragued as to where they put the speakers tho. Please never switch them on, either way - the noise from a 135 brake K series is sublime, especially if the induction side is nice and free =)

£486 sounds very expensive (unless you really are 17)... have you phoned all the usual suspects, Caterham Insurance, Egger Lawson, Footman James etc?

Yeah - that was the only slight niggle for me.
Suffice to say I'll be looking in to getting it taken out, and the speakers (which are behind the seats). Just need to make sure I get it removed before the misses notices it's there

After a bit of initial (pointless) comparison site checking, I was expecting it would turn out somewhere in the 1.5-2k mark - so I thought £486 was a great price!

(Especially as I live in London, car will be on driveway, have 0 no claims bonus as haven't driven for ages, and have 3 points on my license.)

Having said that - I haven't phoned any of the other names you've listed - so I'll make sure I do that before I go forward with this quote. Many thanks for pointing them out!

Hi,

you managed to hold out for just over a month, I only lasted 2 weeks before going back and buying one. Looks like a great car, practice controlling your Caterham grin while there's still time. driving

Deposit paid 3 and a half weeks ago and still another 2 and a half weeks before I can pick mine up. I'm going to have chewed my fingernails past the knuckle and on to the elbow by then! Hope I'll still be able to drive it.
