How easy is it changing from windscreen to aeroscreen? Does it take seconds... minutes... ages? Bearing in mind I a man with ZERO mechanical skills and bugger all tools.

TIA

I dont' think it'll take that long. I'm just wondering if I would need to drill new holes for an aeroscreen.

Minutes. I've got a standard Caterham screen and a Carbon Bits for 7s (or Richard-in-France) aeroscreen that take less than 5 mins to swap. The only extra holes I needed were for mounting the rearview mirror in the middle of the scuttle - these are hidden by popper bases when the windscreen is on and use self-tapping screws into a rail under the dash top.

Tools for a normal swap:
Allen key and socket for undoing the screen bolts.
Phillips screwdriver for fixing the popper bases.
Fingers for disconnecting the heated screen wires if needed.

I am mechanically inept and it takes me around 10 minutes to swap the screens - helps to have a mate too, and a blanket on the bonnet to lay the windscreen onto.

Having said that I've only done it twice - after I put the aero on, I didn't bother swapping back to the windscreen for 18 months! So much more fun aero'd.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I did have an aero on my last (pic below), but now living in the north west Highlands, a screen is a bit of a must!

Hi Steve,

Good to see you're thinking of rejoining the fold. Regarding the screen issue, the word 'wuss' comes to mind tongue out.

Sevens are an itch one just has to scratch... As for wuss, I was think more of the word 'blizzard'

By the way... I assume you can still order the 'half' doors (as in the pic above)?

Probably more appropriate but would be difficult to get that onto a registration plate, whereas something like WU 52 ... would be easy wink

If you have the retaining channels from CC (and not the loose nuts and washers inside the scuttle) then it takes me 5 mins to take the screen off and put the aero on, and 10 mins the other way. I don't need any help, but it does make sense to use a blanket or towel on the bonnet to lay the full screen on.

The other tip is to loosen the three screws holding the screen to the stanchions - it literally gives you more 'wriggle room', which is particularly helpful if you have an FIA kill switch.
