Does anyone know the figure for a caterham superlight R 0 - 100mph time? It doesnt seem to be an officially listed performance figure.

It might be interesting if anyone could post up a comparison table of SLR, R300/400/500 (duratec and k-series)and CSR times to see how each engine fights the drag forces involved at higher speeds.

Might be of some help. Way back in 2002 when I had an R500 it held the road car record for 0 - 100 - 0. Things have changed, but still worth a look.

Caterham Seven R500 11.44 secs
Pagani C12 S 11.84 secs
Porsche 911 twin turbo 13.02 secs
Radical SR3 13.20 secs
Lamborghini Murcielago 13.90 secs
Mercedes SL55 15.15 secs
TRV Tamora 15.20 secs
Evo RS Sprint 15.90 secs
Audi RS6 16.75 secs
Impreza STi 18.40 secs

The R500 evolution k series (upgrade available from Minister Power)

p.s. GET IT DONE!! smile

did 10.73 0-100-0.

But the new duratec will be a bit faster. Not sure by how much but LC and sequential...must be

EDIT:

Just found out the R500 duratec did a 12.1 0-100-0 - guessing it was tested on a cold day, would definitely be faster than that - or is it the extra weight meaning it can't stop as quick??

Who knows. But just seen the Ultima GTR did 9.4 seconds biggrin

was there split times for when the car hit 100mph before the driver had to brake? any info out there on the slower caterham R cars?

I'm finding it tricky to get an idea of how quick a caterham SLR is before i purchase one. Since it came out before every manufacturer / magazine posted performance figures on the internet.

The older, lighter CR500 evolution hit the 30mph mark in just 1.45secs. With 100mph reached in 6.92secs, the Caterham stopped a mere 3.6secs later.

Cant find any figures on the SLR?

I'm sure you realsie, the Seven is mainly quick because of it's weight. It may have similar figures to 911 turbos in a straight line, but it's miles quicker round a track because it can brake so late. 0-100 times are really rather pointless. smile

Superlight R is just over 9 seconds to 100. I think some magazine tests got it under 9 seconds, but just over 9 is about right.

Put it this way: I've yet to come across anyone who felt the SLR wasn't quick enough. hehe In anything but the most extreme circumstances it is going to be as quick as an R500, and even then driver skill will probably count for more in terms of pace than anything else. smile

Get it bought. biggrin

i used to have a mag cutting somewhere of an SLR 0-100mph test

i think it was autocar but the only thing was, the car was slightly unusual in that it had a single hoop rollbar and looked more like an early racer

i did it in very low 9's .... 9.1 or 9.2 IIRC

I used to own one and i would say low to mid 9's is about bang on.

Well I think I am quite convinced. I am used to an e39 M5 which is quick in a "thats impressive for a car this size" type quick, and although its very good at what it does, its more brisk than quick.

I have driven several other caterhams, but nothing with more than 150bhp, which felt like it was enough to keep the chassis interesting but it coped with it so well that I new I would need more (i like to feel a car move around on the throttle inputs). I think 190bhp (if the VHPD k-series makes this - I have seen threads that suggest its optimistic?)is the sweet figure, enough to be quick but still fully exploitable on the road.

I think trying to meter out the power in an R500 would be very entertaining on a track but probably a bit frustrating on the road as well as enducing sweaty palms i would of thought.

So to sum up, I think I will be sourcing a SLR soon.
