Hi people.

I've had a VVC and an R500 in the past, the first 90% road, the second 90% track... but I now live in the NW Highlands of Scotland, so am thinking of another Roadsport for some B road fun. I don't need ballistic any more, but something spirited - but not too twitchy (it rains a lot!)

Having been out of the Seven loop for the best part of a decade, I now see that the Roadsport options are the 1.6 Ford Sigma and 2.0 Duratec.

I have no experience of either of these lumps... I'm assuming the 150 BHP Sigma with a 5 speed box will be sufficient for some Sunday blats?

How does it feel compared to the old K - VVC?

Thanks for your help.

Oh and, still worth fitting a LSD and superlight suspension or is that overkill for road only use?

Steve

I think you would be better getting a Duratec 175, not sure what the difference in cost is. A good all round performance car.

It's £3k more. Same 0-60 (just) but a bit more torque (though further up the rev range).

Hi. I ordered my Roadsport 150 SV in December for a June 2010 delivery - cant believe its 5 months to wait. Anyway when I went down to order the car I had the debate about which engine to get - the sales guy talked me out of the Duratec 175 as his advice was to go for the 125bhp engine and spend the rest on the Superlight suspension and the LSD instead which would, for road work, be a lot more entertaining. I ended up going for the 150bhp engine along with the suspension upgrade and LSD as recommended. I will see what its like when I get it!

Hi Steve,

Recognise your posting and have enjoyed following you house building blog and photos on your web site. Drove thru' Shieldaig, on way to Pass of the cattle, with Border 7's last year. Suspect knowing the cars you have owned in the past that you would find the 175 better. (or an R300 even better)but can't add any personal comparison.

Go for the Duratec

The sigma is a bit like the runt of the pack. Its limited tuning availability and is seen as a stop gap engine prior to the duratec. Rather like the 8v Vx engine all those years ago.

I dont think used sales of sigma engined cars will be anywhere near as in demand as duratec in 3 years time.

And you can take the duratec to 210 / 225 quite easily yourself in due course.
