Richard from Carbon Bits / RiF
Discussion
Found out yesterday that Richard died about a month ago. Obviously old news for those who read Blatchat etc.
An utter gentleman, and absolutely the nicest person to do 7 business with. The godfather of Caterham Carbon.
Sounds like he was given a great send off, including a "minutes noise" of revving engines.

Old news for Blatchat readers but none the less poignant even now. Unfortunately due to the severe weather conditions, no sevens managed to make it across to the funeral. Even so there was a good turnout of around 55-60 people to a small Scottish village such was the depth of feeling for him. I expect that had it been summer, this would have been quadrupled.

A real shame I never met him, but had some long telephone conversations with him over rediculously overpowered Seven projects, as he was initialy interested in the Hartley H1, (Whuich I'd done a fair bit of research on) before he went the V6 route.
I spoke to hime a couple of weeks before he passed away, and ordered some parts from him. He wouldn't take a deposit, said he could trust a fellow Sevener, which says a lot about the guy.
I had an e-mail this week from Barbara and Henrietta, chasing up on the parts I'd ordered!
Restores my faith in Humanity.
A real shame he never got to finish his project and enjoy it.
R.I.P. Richard. I hope there's some good Cyclist free Blatting roads in the sky!

Yjere was a very nice obit in the latest edition of "Low Flying".
Yes, a beautiful piece of writing. I have an RiF aeroscreen and I am sure others have carbon from RIchard on their cars - a kind of living memorial to a nice guy. Well done to Tango 7 for making what sounds like a real battle of a trip up to the funeral. Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
