Hi

Does anyone have any idea as to whether the wider chassis has any extra leg room ?

Many thanks.

Yes it does.

I am a bit over 6'4" with size 12 feet and can comfortably drive with the leather seats. No mucking about about sitting on the floor with the seats removed as would be required in an S3.

On the passenger side I can straighten my legs which is rare even in a normal large car. Oh and the little people can occasionally not get the seats far enough forward to reach the pedals wink

The SV chassis is longer, as well as wider.

I'm one of those smaller human beings who couldn't reach the pedals. Solved the problem and ended up with extra luggage space behind the seat for holidays. wink

Because of the shape of the curved dash on the CSR touching my knees, I probably had more leg room in the SV?(I'm 6'4")

Thanks for that.

6'3" and 17st!! S3 fine for track use, but not to comfy on the road and I'm planning a bit of touring next year, so would be handy to squeeze a passenger in too.

SJC have you tried a CSR without modular dash?

No, that would be my perfect compromise probably. Having had a couple of visits to Caterham I've promised myself it will be that or a R400SV with a stack carbon dash.
Note to self, must get before arthiritus really tales a hold...........

sjc are you getting rid of the M400 to get an R400 SV?

Funny enough I have an M400 and am just in the middle of buidling an R400 to complement it. Mine is an SV with R500 fuel system, R500 loom, R500 dash, keyless go, indicators on the steering wheel etc. Really looking forward to geting it run in the next few weeks.

Should be the best of both worlds.

Well I bought an old barge in preparation for getting a Caterham, but the Noble is such a hard car to let go of, as you know there's simply nothing as good for the money. I sold a 3R on a whim, regretted it immediately and spent 9 months looking for a decent M400.I'm concerned that I'll miss it too much again, but need to scratch the Caterham itch before I'm bloody too old!
As for having both, well that's just plain greedy isn't it? biggrin
Sorry to the O.P. for going off topic a bit.

Ask Jay Leno what he thinks wink
On a different level I've got an R300 SV kit awaiting build at home, but will be keeping the MX-5 just because.

BTW, I've gone for the SV, lowered floor with the carbon/alcantara seats. At 6'3" I wanted to be looking through the middle of the screen, and Tillets in the S3 chassis wouldn't actually allow my femurs into the car - for a fairly slim bloke I have broad shoulders and hips.

Does anyone know the actual measurements, when you look on the net they only say that the Sv is 4 inchs wider but does anyone know the actual measured width rail to rail of a s3 chassis and a SV aswell as the bulkhead to bulkhead measurement. I am interested in mocking up the SV chassis and seeing if i might get one.

Wouldn't it be easier to get someone to post on Blatchat, then find people who own one in your local area. Then just pop along and have a sit in an example of both. If your anywhere near Wilts I can do the S3 for you smile

For as far as I know the passenger compartment is 11 cm wider and 8 cm longer. I haven't met anyone who didn't fit in my car, although some had problems getting out with the hood on.

There's absolutely no substitute for trying the cars out. Not only is everyone built differently, but there are so many setup configurations that a few peoples' measurements are pretty much worthless. Bums in seats is where it's at. In fact bums sliding part way into seats, getting stuck then taking a few minutes working up a sweat getting back out again, are where it's at!

Im a tad over 6 ft 4 and its mainly in my legs.

I drove the SV for half a day from caterham (1.6) with chunky leatehr seats and fitted in and drove it fine.

I decided I couldnt justify buying a 1.6 for £18k+ in a colour etc that didnt really take my fancy or spec to what i wanted.

So opted for a Mk Indy with a few choice bits, namely LSD, R888's Protec suspension and a Yamaha R1 engine. Looks the nuts, goes and handles very well too, and, most importantly, its another chassis to consider if you cant fit/get on with a CSR SV.
y car is well within R300 teritory when it comes to lap times, but the overall build and quality of a caterham it cannot match at all, plus the lack of ARB's etc make it even less smooth in comparison.
