Going to be placing an order for a 6 speed sequential within the next week or so.......options are the Quaife G60 and the Elite IL300, i know plenty of caterham's use the G60 and i know some that have used the lesser Elite IL200, the Il200 has had some issues but i'm told the IL300 version is much heavier duty, much more so than the Quaife and can can also handle more power and torque, i also have heard the usual stories about the Quaife leaks etc, the Elite is a tad cheaper but for the sake of £500 i don't want to compromise. Car is a CSR 260
Does anyone have any direct experience of both boxes, or opinions on either box?

I had experience with the Quaife box in my C400 race car. Never had a problem myself, although a few had some problems with the gear selector seizing when hot, I believe a modification was released.
Some had a few leaks, I didn't, again I think the rear seal has been improved since then.
Still felt very fresh at the end of a season, despite taking a whole race at Snetterton with no clutch to aid downshifts, which is more than can be said for the Holinger box in my current racing car, which became VERY recalcitrant by the last round, despite a mid season refresh.
Not sure what Elite are like, but Quaife supported their gearboxes well, and any problems were rectified. Also the design must have benefitted from a couple of season's racing and feedback by now

Having spooken to Quaife it seems they have made some modifications to the gearlever and seals......I think i'm going to opt for the Quaife.......what do people use for the flatshift?
Take a look at the geartronics site for some ideas. If you can afford it, their closed look "GCU" solution is very good, and offers a lot of features found on pectel and other high end solutions.mickrick said:
A bit late in the day to come in, but did you consider the Drenth box?
Actually yes I did, but it really is alot more expensive, with the euro the way it is then it's not far off being double the cost, I've used the Drenth in an M3 and they are superb but I just don't think the car warrants a box that expensive when a Quaife will do the jobYes they are expensive!
Interesting to know you've used one, and seem to have liked it.
I've been researching a DG400 for my Caterham, as a quaife one wouldn't be suitable for my application, and I found the guys at Drenth to be very helpfull with information.
I'm also planning to do some research on the Sadev unit, as this will allow me to drop the engine another 22mm, but I'm told the Sadev unit rattles like hell in neutral at idle.

All the BMW's you'll see racing use Drenth....its the best option and they really are very good, but in caterham that has 150bhp less I can't see the need for paying more, if I was prepared to pay more than the Quaife then the Drenth would get my money, I've only used a Sadev in a Clio Cup car, 22mm I wouldn't have though would have sufficient impact to warrant the extra outlay either

Don't be too afraid to go too light on the flywheel clutch assembly.
I got down to 1.6kg on the fly wheel 233mm dia and 2.5kg on the clutch a/p 140mm twin plate.
The car idled at 1500rpm, but the gear changes with both the quaife 4speed dog box and the elite 5speed il200 were as fast as you could move the levers.
