Quantum Shocks ?
Discussion
their web site isn;t great;
http://www.quantumracing.co.uk/
these guys are an agent for them;
http://www.carbon-bits.com/
they are listed on the carbon bits web site as ~£300 each so they are top line for single adjustables..
I've used them in the past in a blade powered striker, and was happy with them... but to be honest didn't get time to test them as much as I'd likeGIven they do a specific model for caterhams - i imagien there muct be a few guys on here who use them - or experience of.......

Got any more info?
I know that Nitron aren't now perceived as well as they were a few years ago. For similar money, you can get far more robust Koni items....
What's your budget?
Why the change in opinion over the Nitrons? Have they changed spec or is the Koni new to the market? Just curious as thats my next planned upgrade.I know that Nitron aren't now perceived as well as they were a few years ago. For similar money, you can get far more robust Koni items....

I think they build shocks more for the trackday end of the market, race than race cars per se. But, you pay for what you get.... £1000 for 4 is certainly more reasonable than £1000/corner! Or £10000/corner - but most of the kit at that end of the scale is leased rather than bought.....

Does anyone know if Ohlins does anything for Caterham?
Yes they do - the chap who owns 7tips.co.uk, called Simon Rogers, very successfully runs Ohlins damper units on his Caterham. He's a nice chap so why not email him to see if he'll advise (there's an email button on the 7tips website).Edited by Epimetheus on Saturday 21st November 09:49
I have been running Nitrons for same years. There sevice is very good and I have had my fronts revalved. They do not leak and I have only hear of one set that has done this and that was when new. They were exchange.
Nitron do not only trackday setups but work with all types of motorsport including F3.
Khoni do a one way damper but I have no experance with them. They are more money than the Nitrons. I guess you get what you pay for. w
What will your main use be? My Nitrons have been great for road and trackdays.

Not a fan on the Nitrons perosnally after running them back to back on damper dyno with other leading brands
After extensive modification and testing for a season we ditched them for Ohlins which i must say are superb in every way.
Quantum are fairly decent, the standard Bilstein non adjustable race dampers with the right springs work very well and id doubt you would need more for trackday and fast road.

What other brands have you compared them to? How do Ohlins, Konis, etc work out cost wise in comparison?After extensive modification and testing for a season we ditched them for Ohlins which i must say are superb in every way.

I've currently got the RSA spec bilsteins which are way too hard for our crappy roads. I'm just looking for something for road use which can be stiffened up for the occasional trackday, don't want to burst the bank. Nitrons just seem attractive given that they seem to be a popular choice for Caterham's and seem to be regarded to work straight out of the box without the need to have the valving tailored.

We back to backed them with several modified versions of the Nitron with valve mods and the Ohlins.
The standard Ohlins units performed far better then all of the standard and modified configurations of nitrons. The fast compression was particularly bad on the Nitrons - and the standard fluid very poor.
For road and track setup i would say they are reasonable for the cost but like all things if you demand more then the cost increases. They far outway the GAZ and other cheap dampers on the market.
I would also suggest Black Art Designs, ive worked with John on several projects and for value for money dampers hes pretty good. He will also be able to tailor the damper to your exact needs.
Ive driven the Bilstein R400 spec race dampers on road and track and they perform faultlessly on both, with a good setup and the correct spring rates they should be good all round as long as your not driving on bumpy B and C roads!

You have B & C roads that aren't bumpy???? Sod all of those anywhere near me. ;-)Last time I checked a set of Nitrons was around £1200, much the same as quantam I think. Any idea how much more Ohlins etc are?
