Grot Trap

I'm just doing my end of year clean down and decided it was about time to do something with the grot traps. I Put a tin of Waxoyl down there during the build but seeing the amount of crud building up and probably making its way aft I should do a bit more.

I got some 1/8" Black Nitrile rubber cut to fit but now i'm thinking that if I seal it up any condensation behind the panel will cause rot anyway. So plan B was fix the rubber to the pedal box and rest it 'curved' against the ally skin. Now I'm thinking that anything that hits it will fall down and run back up the grot trap anyway.

Any thoughts?
