Hi there
A question about roll cages. If I'm looking at a car with an FIA roll bar (track day style) what's involved in fitting a full race style roll cage (with side intrusion protection)? Does it involve bodywork modification? And can it be removed if I want to in the future?
No bodywork mods needed. Can be unbolted at a later stage, although may be wise to pack a few 1mm washers under all the mounting points to prevent any paintwork marks from tiny movement of the cage on the body.A question about roll cages. You'll need to remove the rear dampers to mount the cage.

It depends if you count 2 or 8 (depending on cage type) 7/16" holes in the sideskins as a modification. It's a relatively easy swap back, but the holes wont fill themselves.
Sorry Stuart. Agreed. OP - Make sure you use spacer insers inside the box tubing of the chassis rails to prevent crushing them with f/off 7/16" bolts!
Depending on your chassis, you may not have all the bosses for the SLR cage. The Roadsport cage should fit ok. Also depends which cage you want to fit ie if its new or not, as caged cages are different to Safety systems (think that was the other company)
Anyway, I had a SLR cage fitted to my 98 S3 earlier in the year, and it cost around £900 including having the correct bushes fitted. I prefer the SLR cage to the Roadsport cage, they are a bit roomier. Disadvantages, are you can easily fit a screen and I believe weather gear to a roadsport cage, which you can't with a SLR cage. Although I've seen a picture of one car with a screen fitted with a SLR cage, but weather gear is a no no
