Test Drive tomorrow - wish me luck....
Discussion
Off to Caterham South tomorrow to test drive a roadsport 125.... been looking around for a car to 'learn' to drive in for a while having had the fortune of having had some nice metal, but that probably flattered to deceive...
Trying to be sort of 'sensible' though - hence the 125 and not a R500 , did try an Atom a little while back - but think that's far too much for 'starters' - and (puts flame suit on) do fancy just a little windscreen protection...
Fingers crossed the weather plays ball... wonder, if I go for it, I'll be able to stick to the 125 or will be tempted by more POOOWWWERRRRR!

Good luck, you will have a ball. They will treat you well and let you try many cars..
I went there with ideas of getting an R300/400. Never driven a 7 before but always wanted one. I drove a Superlight (138bhp). Loved it, bought it! I know that I WILL want more power, but I am having fun learning "proper" driving. Feels fantastic and a great drive. I have had 2 TVR's, a VX220, a Monaro, and some others in the past - where you need to get stupid quick before having fun. 70 feels like a blast, and the in gear acceleration is like nothing else. The car also gets a LOT of respect on the road, with smiles and waves.
Have fun, you WILL have empty pockets after your visit
Cheers
Mike

Well a most enjoable morning poking around the cars and hats off to Damien for his patience and walking me through the different models, plus the weather played ball for the test drive so I wasn't quite "driving miss Daisy". Anyway, very taken with a Roadsport 125 they've got on site, 2yrs old, 2800miles
think it's enough oomph for me to start with, though still tempted with an old more powerful car. Cogertating over the rest of the weekend, but have a sneaky feeling the credit card might be flexed on Monday

I remeber when i was on the cusp of buying my first Caterham - so much excitement and pondering!
My only advice would be that the millisecond you put your deposit down you will know you have made the right decision, and this will be backed up when you first drive the car by yourself - for me it was very similar to the day that as a 17 year old boy i passed my driving test and went for my first ever solo drive (I'll never forget either!)
Good luck with the (potential) purchase - I hope we have an indian summer so you can get some miles under your belt before the weather sarts to turn.
cheers,
Mick

I have got a Sigma 125 academy car and its brilliant for either road or track. Despite the power or seeming lack of it, you have to drive it to the best of your abilities still. I have got two other sevens with 400 bhp/tonne performance, and the little Sigma rates as one of the best sevens I have ever driven or owned so I reckon as a first seven its an ideal choice.
Thanks Tango, that's exactly the sort of input I need - coming from some bigger engined (but heavier) cars I'm a little concerned about under-powering my next purchase - despite the lightness... btu sounds like I won't be dissapointed with the 125... oo, tomorrow could be costly Am going to get them to put the Q/R steering wheel on the car though.. combination of ease of entry and security
