I've decided that My new R500 is just a little to extreme for the road and decided to get shot in favour of something with a roof!lol Advert is now live in the classifieds. I think this is the only one available in the uk?

What is too extreme!? biggrin

Seriously, for you?

If its the wind noise/buffeting get a window screen and doors as suggested. Wind problems are gone. I've only been a Caterham owner since April but in that time I've switched between aero and full screen and doors (depending on where i'm going) and there is a massive difference. Don't bother with just the screen, you need the doors too. I've even had the roof one once for an hours very wet driving and was perfectly dry, although a little warm!.

Ear plugs would reduce the whine from the gearbox and exhaust noise. You should definitely have ear plugs in anyway if you don't want damaged hearing (even more so with the aero screen).

If it's too fast/twitchy, perhaps some track time or skid pan time would make this more usable and give you some confidence,

I'm a little surprised that someone with a dedicated track car would buy a car like this and sell it because it's too much for the road. Have you not considered using this as the track car?

Good luck with the sale if that's what you do. You've had some nice motors, it would be a shame not to use this one properly!

Rocket Cheers for the pep talk. I had full intentions of using the 500 as the track toy. Problem is i've realised i don't get enough free time to get the most out of the track day season. I'm happier with a cheap track toy and then it doesn't matter if it's in the garage for a few months not being used.

I didn't think that would take long! Any ideas what the replacement will be?

Hi Rocket. I'm still thinking about the next thing. It's probably going to be either another gt3, a 997gt2 or a scuderia. The scuderia is favourite at the moment, Though i'm not sure how residuals will be when the 458 is released.

Aren't they best enjoyed with a helmet on?

You get a damn fine dose of the racket without the tinitus.

with the greatest of respect Martin... im always stunned when i hear something like this

I know that car buying is pretty whimsical but an R500 is a pretty big purchase and needs a bit of thought given that its basically a motorbike with 4 wheels. Surely it only takes a few seconds of brain thought to become aware how much time you'll ahve for trackdays in any one given time period ?

Did it just suddenly occur to you after you'd bought it that you wouldn't actually have any time to do trackdays or did your life change after you bought it in that your free time was suddenly compromised ?

ETA: as stated, no ill feeling meant... i'm just genuinely amazed at how you could get yourself into such a pickle ?

Think a lot of people fall for the TG style car reviews and end up with something that they can't really use. Its a lot easier to come off a track feeling rewarded in a porker or fazzer. You can't really expect someone to get into something as crackers as a 500 and make it go some without some degree of track experience.

PS didn't know there was a trackday season, you have missed out bigtime - R500 on a wet circuit, absolute heaven......though it's probably the one time you want the 6sp box in it.

Kudos on giving a 500 a go though, great car.

I've been away for a few days, But i'd just like to add that the lack of use wasn't the only reason for selling the car. I think caterham have got some serious catching up to do when it comes to aftercare. I wasn't prepared to wait for them to do this as life is to short. That's all i can really say without going into lots of detail. The car has gone to a true enthusiast and i wish him all the best.
ps i buy most of my cars on a whim and i'm glad i've scratched the r500 itch,Onwards and upwards i say!!
