The only one I know of is http://www.openroadhire.co.uk/ but I have no idea what they are like to deal with.

Is there an official dealership up there? I could have sworn I read the works did hire.

I'm in Central Scotland - there are a few dealers that offer service for Caterhams http://www.dreadnoughtgarage.co.uk/caterham.html being one of them.

I've never had any dealings with openroadhire but have seen some of their cars. From what I've heard they're OK and certainly there are no horror stories about them up here.

Lots of good roads - the Trossachs and 'Dukes Pass' (A821) is a good run, but there’s so much to choose from that you’re best to buy a good map and pick the bits that appeal to you.

http://www.jock7s.com/forum/ is the forum for the local 7 events and runs. http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/index.php is also worth a look.

Cheers

David

I hired the blue classic in May, as an extended test drive. No problems with car, and Andrew at openroadhire was very helpful, even letting me pick it up the night before as I was in mid-journey and saved a round trip. He will supply you with route maps if required, and roads nearby are perfect for trying cars out. Will also put you in touch with Caterham Midlands for deal if you decide to follow on with purchase.

Tip: Don't try driving home on the motorway with doors off as I did on first night. Although trying to look unflustered by the feeling that my eardrums must be bleeding from the air rushing in, I finally had to admit defeat when I could no longer breathe! Doors and sunglasses on...no problem.

We have a hire business here in Yorkshire www.roadsporthire.com and with Openroadhire have a link on nhe official Caterham site. We had to go through their organisation to get that, we source our cars only from Caterham and have a very high service ethos.

We hired a car from Andrew earlier this year and he's the same. Really nice chap. The scenery up there is fantastic and he has good cars.

Go for the orange K series - better than the Sigmas. We rent K series Supersports with high spec - like superlight suspension, AP brake upgrade, six speed, Yokahama AO21'S (soft and grippy but good in the rain too) etc.

Nobody's come back yet and said "not fast enough" or not enough fun.

You'll have a super day. smile

We'll be advertising on here next month and next year .

Hora,

i used Openroadhire in Perth last year as a i wanted to hire a 7 before buying my own. A try before you buy if you like! Andrew who runs Openroadhire was really helpful, and great to deal with. Answered loads of my questions, also about ownership, etc. No pitfalls or T&Cs that i i know off to worry about.

There is a deposit i think i paid, and then you get a certain amount of free miles depending on your hire time. I had 2 7s for 2 days, and i think i got 150 miles a day and also a discount as i was a member of the club.

As i wanted to try different cars, he was very flexible in the pick up times and when i could swap.

If your hiring from him, make sure you get the Viper Blue 6 speed SV, which is fantastic. Also check out the A93 up to Grantown-upon-spey.... great bit of road. That SV was pretty much the reason i opted for my 7 i have now.

A great company to deal with, and i have no worries in recommending them.

Should also add there were 3 cars to pick from, unless its changed from Aug last year.... a Viper blue 1.8 6 speed SV, a similar yellow 5 speed SV, and an S3 1.6 .... all k-series. The orange he had sold when i enquired.....

I did 2500 miles in my first week of ownership and did a tour of scotland and by far the best roads are north from perth (A93) upto through Lairg, Tongue and down to Ullapool. Great bit of roads and amazing in a 7.
