Hi

For our Caterham hire business we run high spec Supersports.

Unsurprisingly, the Set of Yokahama A021R's are coming to end of life.

They're 185/60/R13 80H

Because the cars are for road hire, mostly to caterham novices I don't want to go too extreme and I'd like to get some life out of them as well.

I drive the cars a fair bit and the current Yokahamas feel remarkably planted in wet and dry.

Any advice gratefully apprciated.

Thanks

Scott.

Hardly a Caterham expert but I've found my Avon CR500s to be good.

I'm on CR500's a great all round tyre wet and dry! but at £115 a side maybe Yoko's will be cheaper! but Avon's may stop you clients putting Your SS in a hedge on a damp corner?? The choice is Yours!confused

Yoko A021s remain superb road tyres, grippy, progressive, very strong in the wet and reasonably priced. I'd stick with them if I were you.

You could try 21Rs in 185/70/13 profile. Approx. £47 inc VAT per corner from Polley Motorsport. I've used this profile on the road for many years.

You will be hard pressed to find a better all round tyre then AO21Rs for the money

But if you want long life then avon CR322s are what you want as they are indestructible

Agreed - I would stick with the A021r as the general best all rounder for road use esp. for hiring out to people potentially with little experience of Caterhams. If you move to the 70 series as Aeroscreens suggests, you will loose a small amount of performance but this can be minimised with a good set up and you will benefit with increased sump clearance and they are quite a bit cheaper than their 60 series counterparts!

I found the CR322's to be a horrible tyre on my car and whilst they last forever, their feel and performance was awful and a potential for putting people off repeat business esp. if it rains... just my opinion though. I know the Academy boys use them and can post some decent results but this will be after some practice and having to get used to them as their control tyre.

Advice from Caterham was to stick to A021's but they're a bu&&er to find.

Anyone experience of A539's as suggested by my local specialist??

Thanks

Scott.

A539s are pretty average road tyres, nothing like A021/032/048R Yokohamas. They will last longer and maybe are cheaper, but not much else to recommend them.

I get mine from George Polley, paid £298 for 4 in May, which was for 185/60x13, but 185/70x13 are significantly cheaper as mentioned above, as they are the control tyre for Stock racing.
