I'm probably being paranoid here, but it sometimes seems like my car runs on a bit after I cut the ignition (quite ironic given the issues getting it started...)
I'm conscious that it's been known to blow oil out of the catch tank and I just have images of something pressurising the system and blowing oil up into the combustion chamber too. Anything I need to check or am I just being an idiot (again)?

Excellent, thanks.
I'm still having slight difficulty coming to terms with the idea that I bought a car blind for a knock-down price and it actually paid off. That's a stark contrast to my usual car buying luck, and hence something bad is bound to happen before too long...
ETA While I'm obsessing about things: Something - I think the catch tank - still seems to gurggle occasionally when I turn it off (may well be doing it other times, but that's when I can hear it). Is that normal? Never owned a dry sump'd car before... It's just for a second, rather like the last bit of a bath draining!

Suck back from the catch tank as pressures change perhaps?fergus said:

My SLR used to cluck very nicely when ticking over and the Ds pump sucked on air!
Mine sounds like it's about to lay an egg after it's been turned off!It makes a vast array of noises, but so has every racing car I've been in, none of them sound particularly out of place.
The fan spinning after ignition cut briefly acts as a generator and provides enough current to keep the car running. Nothing to worry about, but disconcerting until you have had it explained!
Caterhams do make a fair bit of mechanical noise, some more than others. We are so used to cars now that have inches of sound deadening and very refined mechanicals that it is easy to let these noises worry you.
