Don't know the car but based on others that have been recently been sold I would have a punt at this car for £20K. This is based on the engine needing a potential £3.5K rebuild in about 7K miles

How do you get a £3.5k rebuild, when Dave Andrews will do you a head refresh, new liners, rings, big end bearings, and belts, etc for about £1.5k. Guides, etc will obviously push the price up, but not by £2k..... Having seen the quality of DVAs work and his work on the dyno, I'm not sure why you'd want to pay more?

I'm thinking of the phrases "you've had" and "your pants pulled down" here if you've paid that sort of price.... :scratchchin"

Does Dave come round your house and get the engine out of the car for that price as well? :-P

Really good point actually Johnny. I wouldn't worry about a refresh until nearer 11k miles and even those people whose name begins with an "M" and who Fergus isn't keen on wink only charge £2k for a refresh...

Jonny, unfortuantely not, you'll need to drag the carcass up to sunny Milton Keynes. The engine doesn't need to come out for a std refresh anyway.

Spend your cash superfluously if you like chaps thumbuphehe

Not sure it would be a decent refresh without removing the crank, certainly not the way I would do it.

Depends whether you want to do the crank bearings in addition to everything else. This is the only thing I can think of that requires the crank to be removed (excluding the desire for a full dynamic balance from Steve Smith - which is always nice!)?

Mmm, I for one wouldn't expect a decent refresh to happen in car! In fact I woudn't dream of going there. I'd be astonished if DVA does a full refresh without taking the engine out.

Other than the crank bearings, why would you need the engine out for a refresh?

Crank bearings are going to see the far side of 30K unless there is a specific problem IME

I'd still rather look at them. You pay your money and take your choice.

I guess but if you are going for a complete rebuild then it doesn't really matter what you start with does it?

It makes it way easier to properly clean everything. In the car its a bit of a faff and it doesn't take more than a few hours to remove it and stick it on a stand.

Well, you cheeky little lot tongue outbiggrin

That was Minister prices and yes I know DVA can do it cheaper

I have had an R500 and did look into a rebuild with both Minister and DVA but decided after 17000 hard miles it was time for a change so part exchanged it

Anyway mute point as I see the car is now sold. Did you buy it Steve
