Spoke to tim at cat cars today to ask when i will be able to collect my car. Order says 2nd or 3rd week of may . So as you can imagine i'm starting to get all excited. To say i wasn't inspired with confidence with his reply is a bit of an understatement. Something to do with a new type sva and they havn't done one yet so don't know what to expect, Also my car that was apparently started to be built in the last week of april, As confirmed to me when i rang them in the last week of april has only just been started. When i told him that i would like to do a trackday at spa in june his answer was well it should be ready but i don't want to get your hopes up. DOH!!
Am i being petty? Should i just give them the benefit of the doubt?

Anything involving the DVLA or the SVA test (and now replacement) is so full of red tape and jobsworths that they are being as exact as they can. SVA rules were applied differently by every station and tester so it can be that cars that would pass in one place fail in another. I am sure the new test will be no better as it will have been invented by someone sat in an office who has never done the job or spoken to anyone that has!
Cars sat in the factory don't make them money, so they won't want to have it cluttering the place up!

Of course what would have been nice was for them to ring you first and explain that they were doing their bit ie building the car, but that the SVA was a bit of an unknown quantity and time scales were variable.
Just basic customer service really - something that has been critised at CC in the past. Its not like you're spending a tenner is it.

This is definitely an area that confuses new purchasers, but instead of whinging about it, it's more a matter of celebrate the quirkiness of the small company. You'd have similar with Morgan, Ariel, Westfield, so that's jsut the market all are in.
You're not buying a Vauxhall, etc so roll with it. I did, I had similar and then Caterham beat their own estimate and had our car to us earlier than scheduled

Caterham do need to get their act together if they want to sell to a wider demographic than those who are willing to set aside any semblence of commercial expectations due to viewing the company through rose tinted spectacles.
I can sympathise with Martin, who has come from a GT3 RS and dealing with Porsche (not all it's cracked up to be these days, depending upon which OPC you use) to dealing with a company which doesn't seem able to even give a delivery date to within a month.
Martin, the only thing on your side here is that once you've got your R500 and got it setup properly , I think even if you end up getting a GT3.2 RS, I think you'll still keep the 7!
