Hiring a Roadsport next week.....
Discussion
If You hire one ,You WILL buy one!! I did!!
After 20years of wanting, I started drifting off the idea thinking its an expensive toy that spends most of the time locked in the garage. But then My family got Me a hire day for My 40th back last September, Me and the wife had a great day! a 125 Sigma Roadsport GN56LLO (its for sale CC Mids).
After that told the Wife the upstairs bathroom was on hold!! and 15th November last year bought a '98 1600k Supersport private sale after 5 weeks of hunting the classifieds!
Have a great day!! You have been warned!!!

We haven't even got our website up and running yet and already the car's out.
We're sourcing our cars only from Caterham and their experience is that about 1 in 8 hires directly result in a fairly immediate sale.
I'll post some pics and video on here when I can but it looks like it's going to be a great success.
I though this was a fine service but I do take the point about creating an itch that has to be scratched! I've never seen such a big grin on a person as the chap who took our Supersport out on Sunday. AFter he'd got over babbling about the experience he uttered the fateful words "I MUST have one of these".
My only worry is that I don't get out enough in the car but clearly, I need to research all th routes etc for maps for customers!!!
Will keep you posted on how it's going.

Well I'm back and now that he dust has settled (It was yesterday) I can now give a sensible considered verdict.
Oh my God I must have one!!!!!
Seriously though I loved it.
It was a Roadsport SV 50th Anniversary, silver with gold and green nosecone and black wheels. Nice!!
Pretty odd at first with the stiffness, transmission whine, exhaust noise and that stubby gear lever but nothing a few miles couldn't cure. After that I loved every minute.
Mental acceleration whip crack shift and it goes again, which an Elise behind me just outside Dorking will testify to, he was not even in the same league!!!
I loved the pops and bangs on overun, had me prodding the accelerator just for the sheer hell of it.
All this from a 1.6!!!! Incredible. I just cant imagine what the R versions are like.......
Few comments from passers by "Nice car mate!" which is always nice.
Great experience with Caterham themselves, Emma was very helpful, clear instructions on the hood and operation of the car and was cool giving me an extra half hour as I was the last customer out. Also helped out at the petrol station when I was a numpty and could only get £1.70 in. Very knowledgable on the cars and also gave me some compliments on my Mk1 MR2, so if you're reading this Emma. Cheers ;o).
All in all a great day, and I will definitely be buying at some stage. In my opinion every driving enthusiast should have one.
MMMmmmmmmn now, shares, ISA's, pension, or Caterham....???

Was that your first time in one John? I'm heading down to Perth on Friday morning to pick up the classic which I'll have for 3 days (oh yes! ); any tips? Is there anything out of the ordinary I should watch out for?
Did you have yours just for 1 day? I'm not convinced leaving a Caterham on the open streets of Aberdeen over night at a weekend is such a good idea security wise, so might have to make the journey out to dad's to keep the car safe (any excuse to drive the thing! )

Nothing out of the ordinary really but just as I described the alien experience for the first few miles.Did you have yours just for 1 day? Yep just had mine for a day and luckily the rain held off!

I have just had 3 of the best days of my life!!
I had a gorgeous blue, rover-engined classic from Andrew at Openroadhire and it was simply out of this world. Nothing prepares you for the sense of occasion when driving these things; especially when your first 2 hours in one is spent in the lashing rain, on the A90, doing 70, making eye-contact with the wheel nuts of trucks. That said I drove it in the dry, in the damp, in the sunshine, in the rain, during the day, during the night, on the motorway, on b-roads, on unclassified roads, with the top off, with the top on... all of it: FANTASTIC! Driving south through Breamar, over Glenshee and into Perth in a Caterham is something I've wanted to do since getting my license, and now I am one very happy chappy... although I'm gutted it's come to an end.
One question I do have; I assmue the ford engine, as well as being a bit more powerful, is also a little smoother? The rover engine (1.6) was very entertaining, just curious what the difference is.
