So if I had a 10yr old car.....
Discussion
What this government seems to have missed, big time, is people have old cars, because they can't afford new ones, so what on earth makes them think these hard up car drivers, with jobs losses left right and centre, would even think of giving up their old car for £2k , and then having to find the remainder of £4k upwards to buy a NEW CAR?, new car = possible increased insurance premiums as well.
God my head hurts.

But if you were in a position to be able to afford a new car anyway, then surely you could go out and buy a 10yr old car for £50-£100 and then get £2000 under the scrappage scheme??
Indeed after you owned said old car for 12 months. So there is a market for buying one anyway, just in case, and keep it until next year, and cash in on the scheme. We will see an increase of older cars being snapped up I wonder for this reason?ChapppeRS said:
Under the government's hash up of the scrappage idea, caterham would have to sign up to the scheme as they'd have to give £1000 of their own money. They almost certainly wouldn't sign up to the scheme in this case.
Exactly. The scheme only applies to cars where the manufacturer has signed up to it. I doubt Caterham will do so.maybe, just maybe this is the final piece of evidence that this country are run by morans. Not only are all the points extremely valid but anyone in the position to buy a new car will simply buy a banger before hand. What then happens to the discounts the car vendors are already offering off new cars.
Darling needs shooting he really does.
Bunch of fking idiots run this country, and its not often when you can say hey I probably could do a better job.....

Not true - you need to have owned it for 12 months before the £2k scrappage applies, so it's too late to buy a banger now as the scheme ends next March.
wow, that is interesting, so they really are trying to tempt people quite content driving around in an old car to get into a new one. I wish them luck but still can't see it working.....Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
