Has anyone out there ever repacked a Techcraft silencer? I opened up the stated item today to repack it with E Glass ( as recommended on another site ....) only to find that it pulls out the "perforated bit in the middle" when you pull off the end. This makes it impossible to re pack it, epsecially with this E glass stuff - its like packing something with dollies hair! Anyway , when full up , you cant then reconnect the perforated tube, I mean , have I just pulled it apart wrongly, or should it actually be connected to the removable end? Or is there a secret way to do this? Can anyone help - how does one do this?
On another note- the reason it is being repacked, is cos I am going to Donny on the 21st, and its on a superlight R . Last time I went there I got about 5 laps before the steel wool that was in there had given up, and I got black flagged! So this time I want to get it right this time. Is anyone else going on the 21st? If I dont sort it I will be in an E30 3 series, and you will know I gave up in disgrace!

The perforated tube should stay in the silencer body then you just stuff the e-glass down around it, it is time consuming and the strands do get caught on the end of the perforated tube (put some gaffer tape over it temporarily!)

Don't pack it too tight, it will actually get noisier, it should at most be like a soft pillow to the touch smile

OT but just noticed on your profile that you have a 240Z Super Samuri. What a superb car and takes me back to my youth when a group of us used to 240/260Z's. Do you get much use out of yours?

Thanks F355 - thats what I thought! Am going to get back on it right away! Thanks for the help mate!
Tango 7 - cos of other addictions (racing E30 BMW's, playing with skylines, and trying to use the caterham) it hasnt moved for a few years. But it should be back out next year, if my plans work out! It is a superb car, very quick even today, but with the classic twist.Very undervalued, and always a surprise to both passengers and other road users.I mean it wont embarass a superlight etc, but any elise is still easily embarassed. Mine is a classic case of taking my eye off the ball, it was all sorted a few years ago, and then I started the racing etc.So the recommisioning is my own fault. Its even done 3 trips to Le Mans with me in the past,a mate of mine in his Noble complained about the pace we were maintaining! Uh oh - I've gone all misty eyed about it again........

One of my friends used to have the very first Samuri that Spike Anderson converted (FFA 196L) which featured in plenty of magazines and write ups. I think Spike bought it back from him a while later after it was all done up again and had a roll cage fitted for the racing that we used to do. I saw it in the Coys auction earlier this year I think it was and had a decent £40k guide price on it then. Another friend from Glasgow had the very last one produced by Spike and I can re-collect John having the Super Samuri sign writing put on in gold leaf before the lacquer. I had some pics of the two together but I think everything was pretty much lost when we moved house.

The worse thing I ever did to my 260Z was leave it parked up for a number of years outside. It started to disintergrate in front of my eyes which was a massive shame as it had been refurbed by a top spray shop 3-4 years earlier. So best to get using it again - we still hanker after a really nice one again but for the moment we stick with Caterhams and Lotus's!

Yep- I spoke to the guy that was selling FFA - really wanted to buy it, but would had to of sold most of the fleet to get it, so decided that I couldnt justify it. Mine is in the garage, so not desintigrating too much.Gonna put it in a pod thingy that I have bought as well..........I am feeling guilty now.As always in the world of petrol, yet again it appears to be a small world! Do you know if it sold for that - I thought it didnt get near it? Unfortunately it suffers from the badge snob problem! Imagine a seventies racing Porsche,or Ferrari being worth "only" £40K !

It is a small world out there! I don't know what it sold for at the auction (or even if it met a reserve). When my friend sold it though it was a fraction of the £40k price and that was after he had put the cage in, LSD, new suspension and AP brakes, brand new triple 50's and a new BV head by Spike and a pile of other work. IIRC it was putting out around 280-300 BHP at the time. This must have been the late 80's and he poured several thousand £'s in which probably would make your eyes water now let alone then! It was a cracking car and very quick - we just used to use it on clubman rallys & events smokin
