Looking for some advice on insurance as considering a Caterham purchase.

Who are insurance companies worth considering (I know Caterham offer their own insurance but are there others worth getting quotes from)?

I would be using it for a few trackdays every year so would need insurance to cover me for that.

Any thoughts much appreicated!

MSM don't offer trackday cover with their policies frown

Usual two to go and get quotes from are Richard Eggar Insurance who are underwritten by Chaucer (0115 985 0165) or Competition Car Insurance underwritten by Norwich Union (0115 941 5255)

Both over very similar cover to include 4 free trackdays with approved track day organisers or free windscreen cover

My caterham is insured through heritage, they cover 4 trackdays a year, as long as they are LotusOnTrack or Lotus 7 Club, and the premium was 1/2 of what Caterham Insurance quoted me.

Not in mine though..and I get trackday cover too biggrin

I do know a fair few people who have found MSM very good both on pricing and claims....guess it all depends on what sort of cover you want and what risk you are, everyone if different.

Hi there,

just bought and insured my first caterham and it was Footman James who offered me the best deal with guaranteed value limited miles, roadside assistance etc. Don't plan to track the car just yet but the deal was good.

Does any one insure you for more than 4 track days a year or even to go racing, In Roadsport for instance?

You wont get race insurance included with a road policy. It's very expensive!

Adrian Flux were best for me. MSM wouldn't insure me because I had my tow car stolen from my driveway last year (protected no claims and first claim in 20 years but never mind). I think I have ended up with Chaucer via Adrian Flux but £277.35 for a limited mileage policy (5,000 miles p.a.) and no requirement for a no claims record.

Don't know about track day cover though.

Thumbsup from me for MSM.

I currently use Footman James though as they've been great with me over the last few years on a "collection" policy.

Hagerty Insurance, they charge a flat 10% of your original price for each trackday. Agreed value. They also cover for trackdays abroad. Been with them years, and have always been impressed.

MSM is very good, but no trackday cover.
