I'm planning to do some Hillclimbs next year in my 1.6 K-series Caterham (currently Supergrad spec).

I guess I'm looking to enter in Class 4, as per;

Class 4 Road Modified Kit, Replica, up to 1700cc
non ferrous.chassis construction cars and Spaceframed
Cars, excluding non car derived engines.

presuming my choice of class is correct (??), looking at the Class 4 rules for 2008 I note

Wheels are free but
the only permitted tyres within these classes
are those defined in the 2007 or 2008 MSA
Technical Regulations, List 1 A

At the moment I'm (happily) using AO48r tyres which are list 1B and therefore wouldn't be allowed in class 4.

Does anyone know which is the best list 1A tyre for hillclimb use on a Caterham ?

The tyre of choice from the L7CGB chanmpionship is the Stunner Scudo which is only available in 15" or 16" sizes. Quite a reasonable road tyre and being very soft, it is suitable for sprints and hill climbs but pretty useless for any type of trackdays as they get too hot, overheat and become very slippy. Price-wise, they are around £35 a corner

Thanks, the only problem is I'm running 13" wheels. Any suggestions for this wheel size?

Not sure if you can still get them, but the 13" Bridgestone RE720 was the favoured tyre before a lot of sprinters moved to the Stunner Scudo's

According to Bridgestone's site the RE720 is now discontinued and I am pretty sure it hasn't been available in 13" for some time.
I have seen a few competitors using Yokohama A539 in 185/60R13.

We usually supply people with Yokohama 185/60/13 A539's which are buffed to 4mm.
Folks seem to like them and i have 4 left.
Pm me for prices if you are interested

Before jumping in - put a post on Blatchat "Club Speed Events" (if you're a member yet) to find out what others in class 4 are choosing. They'll be quite open. If you're not a member I'll put a post on there for you.

I've sprinted and hillclimbed in road going classes for years and there is no better list 1a tyres than the Bridgestone Re720's.
and I happen to know where there are 6 new ones for sale!
