Cheeky..!!

I popped round again today. Safe to say that to do this build justice you really have to stop and think about the order of things. There's no manual for this car yet so you spend a while debating which part goes first, which way round and whether it's only there temporarily until you have to remove it to fit something else.

You wouldn't think it'd be that different to any other but it's silly things like the special electrical connector inside the steering column makes you insert the upper column before the lower column. The Lower column is normally inserted through the top (dash) end, however you'd never get the upper column in place if the lower column was in *its* place. It's all because of the cable that exits the upper column.

In fact you even have to take the upper steering column bush out to fit the upper column.

Then, with upper column in place, you need to remove the rack (previously fitted according to "old" instructions) to get the lower column in.

BUT, you need the lower column OUT of the car to fit the engine... which means you can't fit the radiator and nose ducting until the engine's in, the lower column's in and the rack's back in.

It's complicated. Good job Nige has built 2 of his own previously, plus helped with everyone else's in the area.

Oh, and then the diff was a laugh. Insert the top bolt first and the lower bolts won't line up with the bushes. It was 5mm out..!! A quick call to Caterham resulted in him being advised him to fit the lower bolts first. I was sceptical. How can alignment be dictated by the order you fit those bolts? But it worked..!!
