Mine is on order, and will be delivered some time is September according to Caterham themselves.

They have also told me that they have not delivered any new R500's as yet, I believe there is some issue with the supply of the correct fuel pump at present.

I am expecting mine on 4th of September if the fuel pumps arrive - pretty much everything else is built.
It will be white with a red and green stripe - (italian style) and have the sequential - not sure if anyone has ordered one without this....

When I get it I will let you know what I think. I have done 15 minutes in one and thught it was basically the perfect Catrham - very driveable, the sequential is actually easy in town and yet very, very fast. Need to drive it in anger to have a more detailed view.

Hi Fastcello,

I am interested in your colour combination, ie red and green stripes.

I went for the white ( white is the new black for cars!!) and lime green for the stripes and decals on the rest of the car.

On your colours, is it red and green for just the stripe? and red for the rest of the graphics?

Out of interest what made you pick that colour, I have seen it on a new Fiat 500 Arbarth, looks cool on an Italian car such as that.

I am glad you are also being told by CC that its fuel pump supply problems.

I guess if yours is due 1st week of September then it should be pretty much almost complete by now?

I also went for the Sequential option, it seemed the only choice for a new R500 to me too!

Would love to know more about your car when you get it.

Cheers,

Nige.

Nige,

Before I saw the white and red R500 I had been looking at old racing liveries nad had been thinking about lucky stike livery. Once i saw the white with red I loved it but had two issues. I wanted something different and also wanted the stipes painted on - I think the finish will last much better. The stipes will wrap around the nose cone also leaving a carbon stripe. I chose red and green as I am half italian (Marcello) and yet I thought they would just look good and would work if I sell the car.
I am not getting any other caterham stickers but will be getting some made up specially by a cha called Tony Murray who makes the stickers for the race cars - he has designed a few cool number ovals with red and green flashes.
I still need to sit with him and decide if i will put any stickers on from the race cars... not sure yet....
I have also decided to paint the roll bar white.
My stripes will also be wider tan the stickers - would love to see a picture of it as the paint is done.
White and green should look great. The white on the test car was lotus pearlescent white and it is fab - I live near Bell and Collvile and see them every day on the way to work.

Have you driven the sequential?

Marcello

Hi Marcello,

OK that sounds great, I understand the Italian theme now too.

I am sure you will be posting some pictures when you get your new toy, would love to see them.

Have Caterham told you an exact delivery date for your car yet? I spoke with Caterham Midlands yesterday, and they seem to think that mine will be one of the first to be delivered as it is in kit form.

With my colour choice, I went for the same white as the demonstrator car, Lotus Ice White I believe it is called, and obviously the stripes and other parts of the decal kit in Kawasaki Lime Green.

Heres a quick mock up I did in photoshop, its a bit rough but gives a good idea of what it will look like, hopefully.

I think personally that Caterhams should always be in very bright colors, my previous R400 was in Mango, you might have seen it in the Evo magazine feature article, its Reg no then was X400 SLR.

I have driven a car with the sequential box's, but is was one of the new race cars, personally I loved it, it seems to suit the character of the duratec too.

Good luck with yours and let us know the minute you get it.

Cheers,

Nige.

Scalper,

It was not me but I do like the pic. I raced superlights back in 2003.
I have to say - I think I will be grinning from ear to ear every time I drive it.
When I test drove the R500 I arrived at Caterham on a 1000cc sports bike - the R500 felt as fast in a straight line - which is just not normal and ofcourse it can go round corners alot faster - the speed of a bike without the same degree of danger - great, especially when you have kids.

What do you guys think of adding race livery stickers????

Marcello,

I had an email from Caterham Midlands cars today to say that it looks like mine will be ready next week.

Apparently they have been waiting for some pedal box's to arrive at the factory, that should be arriving before the weekend.

They told me my car is 99% complete, apart from the pedal box, which is the same for all R500's in build.

I was just wondering if you have had your delivery date for next week confirmed yet?

Sounds promising, but then I have had mine on order since May, so I suppose 4 months is not too bad, as it seems they had to do quite a lot of trouble shooting of the cars during the builds too.

Let me know your delivery status.

Also I have already succumbed to upgrade itus, as I felt that where the display indicator is for the gear position is a bit compromised by the steering wheel, so I got one of these from GearTronics.

[url] http://www.geartronics.co.uk/remote.htm [url/]

I am going to position it along side the aces shift lights.

I already have it, and its well bright when powered up in daylight, and dims automatically which is nice too.

BYTW where about's in the country are you? , I am up in the midlands at the end of the M40 Motorway.

Bet your getting excited now too eh?

Nige,

I still don't have a firm date but my order went in prior to the car being released back in February so i think it will be the first built customer car. I had heard there was a part they were waiting on which must be the pedal box and the rest is built - so just need SVA and it will be done. No one at Caterham seems to know except Tim Ward and he was away for a few days. SVA was supposed to be the 4th but I am away on a business trip r 4 days from then so may not get it until the following week.

Your display looks good - I can't remember what is displayed on the stack??? What other things are you considering?

I think I will end up tweeking a few things once I have the car but will wait till I have spent some quality time with it. Once you have spet that much money on a car you get picky with bits that don't have the same quality.

I am based in Surrey - about 15 miles from Caterham itelf. Would be good to meet a fellow R500 junkie, I am sure there will be a suitable track day. I actually like winter track days as you tend to get better days and less crowding.

I am very excited, just would be ironic if the car is finally ready when i am away.... and NO, no one else can pick it up for me.

Hi Marcello,

Thanks and I understand the background to your car now.

Wow did you really get your order in February as I thought that the press release for the R500 only came out in April?

I understand what you mean re the items being up to spec, and agree we have spent a lot of money on our cars, and it really should be as top spec as the "weapons grade" that CC pitched with the release.

I understand from Mic that the display for the gear change is now in the middle of the display to make it easier to read, but I still really wanted a display up by the aces shift light.

BYTW I am still not sure why CC fit the ACES shift lights when using the Stack display, as it would be cheaper to use the quite similar shift light system available from Stack themselves to use with the stack dash.

I too have had problems getting hold of Tim Ward, I have to say that I agree with you that he seems the only one who can answer info re the delivery of our cars.

I also wish that I had his job, as it seems to me that he has had over 4 weeks holiday in the last 2 months, I wish I could get paid time off like that!!

I hope to get more news re my delivery on Monday when Tim is supposedly back from time off.

I will update you on Monday when I know more.

Nige.

Nige,

I was down at Caterham in Feb chatting about an R400 I had a deposit down for but complaining that I really wanted something more special. I was told about the car then and managed to move my deposit onto it pre any info bar some snippets on the sequential box and the bhp. I have ben excited ever since.
I have ben told that th pedal box has arrived and that was te biggest issue. My car should be finished next wek and SVA'd the following week - hopefully just n time for a track day at Brands on the 24th.
I have asked for some pics of it mid build - if I get them I will post them.

Dave - you can have a go in the car if you come down n your R500 wannabe.......
